For the MDers, G's first VEIP Test

Hey all,

I took the G to the VEIP (Vehicle Emissions Inspection Place? Program? PITA?) for the first time ever. Thankfully any car past like '96 or '98 doesn't have to go on that d@mn dynamometer. They just plug in this computer to the cars OBC and get a reading from it. All in all it wasn't bad. Cost $14 (b@stards) and I was in and out pretty quick. It was a slow day yesterday since I pulled up at quarter to 7 and they close at 7.

Pulled into the first lane, paid, and then like 3 attendants (other than the one I was dealing with) came running over to check out the car. It was a good feeling since that hadn't happened in a while. Anyway they were kind of enough to realize the car had low ground clearance and asked me to back out and drive my car to one of the other lanes. Saw them argue for a bit I think one of them wanted to drive the car. But all in all not a bad experience (even though I think the whole program is a bunch of cr@p) and I was in and out in about 10 minutes.

In case you were wondering I took my car up to the VEIP station in Bel Air.

Yeah that VEIP is a joke. Are you sure however of any cars after that year isn't put on the dynometer? I could swear i've seen newer cars on it but I think if your car does have an OBC then they can test the car through that. They did the same with my old car that had one at least.

They put my 02 civic in the dynometer. So yes they do....I guess it depends on the state and shop?

I know it's at least 98 and above b/c even my brother's old 98 Honda CR-V just got the OBC test. Then there was like a 2000 Jeep Wrangler that was there and they had the OBC test too. They didn't even know and the tech said cars after XX year only have the OBC test.

There's a reason VA cops are such A$$holes. Have to enforce their drivers somehow.
