I believe I run XP12 up front and XP10 in back. Works great and the Z guys swear by the set up.

I used the XP10/XP8 combo, but might step up to the XP12/10 combo as suggested to be able to get a bit more heat into them. They are looooud when it's cold though. Just what you get haha.

I don't have any issue with noise with my XP12/10's, which is unusual for race pads. Maybe Chaos' pads were not fully bedded in yet?

The edge of the backing plate? Is that even a thing? Those akebonos are a pretty tight fit on the ends of brake pads.

Interesting. Wouldn't you want grease on the back of the backing plate too? The directions with my Akebono ceramic street pads say to grease the back of the backing plate and the piston faces on the caliper.

I just grease the back of the shim that goes onto the pad and the edges that may drag/touch as the pads being pushed forward and back.

Im not a mechanic by career. I just do what i learn over time. Directions of pads usually just recommend the back of the shim i believe. I just started doing the edges of the pad that drag as they slide once i started reading it can prevent screeching as well.

Im not a master mechanic so I'm not saying this is or isn't the best way to do it, i just have been doing it this way myself and haven't had an issues arise

Anyhow that's why i said maybe he didn't grease them when we were trying to establish why his were so loud.

Either way, Im going to give that sp12/10 combo you recommend a go 100% when the time comes. You track a lot and i only started last year (occasionally and casually) so you definitely have more experience on what pads are better for heat/braking power/ and screeching.
I will just grease them as i normally do since its what ive been doing and hasn't gone wrong for me.

Sounds good. I think you are really going to like those pads. Just be careful not to send yourself through the windshield when you step on them the first time as you will be able to stop in almost 1/2 the distance.

I might try greasing the edges of these new Akebono street pads as they do squeal initially when I back out of the driveway. Maybe that will fix it.

Mine were greased and bedded. Not the edges, but under the shims. Once you got them up to temperature they were fine? YMMV, mine were just annoying haha.
