Seeking advice on 6MT shift *****

I just peeled the leather off my factory shift **** when I tried to remove it to get my radio out (which proved unnecessary despite what the FSM says ). I had no concerns with the factory ****, and have never felt the need to change my shift **** in any of my other cars. I'm looking for advice from folks who have experience with different shift ***** on their Gs, particularly regarding the impact of different weights and heights.

As far as style, I would like something low key--probably black or silver or some combination thereof. I had a metal shift **** on my Civic Si, and I know they get hot and cold. I can deal with that if I have to.

I'm 6'2" with long arms if that makes a difference. I'd prefer to spend less rather than more.

Thanks in advance,

Sea Stories

Over the last few years, the company that always comes to mind for quality is Raceseng: https://raceseng.com/collections/shift-*****

Insofar as solid metal ***** go... you're right how they get too hot and too cold. If you park outside in the summer, that's a problem. As for winter... you could always get a winter-**** and swap them out. My shift **** is solid titanium, but I don't live in a hot climate or park outdoors much. However I do swap it out for winter, like I suggested. When it's cold, that **** is brutally cold. It's rather shocking.

Sure is nice in the hand, though.

The Raceseng Circuit Sphere might be just what you're looking for. Good shape, non-metallic black finish, only $115.

+1 for Raceseng.... quality, fit-and-finish, customer service, all top notch.

I have the burnt titanium "PolyTi" and would not trade that for the world...

Stick or auto? That is going to be an important distinction.

For stick, the thread pitch is 10x1.25 (IIRC) which is the same as Mazda. Voodoo has some nice options for Miatae which would work on our cars. https://www.thompson-automotive.com/...&action=Filter has some choices.

Personally, I like Razo ***** - just the weighted, leather-wrapped ball. I have something like this: https://razo-usa.com/product/ra128/ but with white stitching on my G.

More to the point, I’m trying to encourage the OP to fully describe his car when asking questions. As we tell folks to do all the time.

Thanks, all. It is a manual. I don’t think of automatics having shift *****, so it didn’t occur to me to specify.

Any thoughts on the significance of weight and height?

For height - a shorter **** will reduce the throw some. Short-shift lite. I'm sure there's math involved so I'll leave that to those who can math well.

For weight - the oem **** is pretty heavy. The larger weight on the end of the lever makes shifting easier and smoother (all perceived by user, not necessarily mechanically so). A very light shift **** will make shifts feel a little harder and notchier.

I'd say anything under 200 grams/7 ounces is too light. I think my Razo is 350 grams / 12.4 ounces.

MOST folks here love the various short-shift kits available. I tried one, didn't like it - it increased shift effort substantially to the point I was getting RSI twinges in my arm. The OEM lever + half-height shift **** (the Razo ball) was the sweet spot between them. I've also had and liked the Voodoo basic black crinkle-finish ****.

True. I changed the thread title.

OP, my titanium **** is 450 grams, which feels heavier than stock, whereas my copolymer winter **** is much, much lighter, but I'll be honest here that I don't notice that much of a difference in how it shifts because of the weight one way or the other. I'm guessing it only matters if you get a really heavy ****.

I decided to go with the Raceseng Circuit Sphere short version, and I am very satisfied. I shift overhand or somewhere between

overhand and pistol grip, and it works well for both.

Here are a few photos in case anyone wonders what it looks like in the G.

It looks... big. I'm sure it feels great.

A STS would lower it to just the right height.
