will springs effect the stock shocks later on?

Hello guys!

I am debating on either purchasing the H&R sports for my G37S. I have heard different things from different people. I am just wondering if anyone has experienced blown shocks from sport lowering springs. I really want to go the spring route because it is cheaper than the coilover route.

I have coilovers on hold some nice k&w v3's for $1700. But, I was just wondering if lowering the car with sport springs will eventually ruin my stock shocks.

Thank you!

I would assume it would take a long time for the shocks to go. But with lowering springs, I think the ride quality will noticeably get worse the longer you have them on. But then, we are talking years so I guess it depends on how long you plan on keeping it lowered on springs.

Eventually it will stress the stock shocks more than they were designed for. How long? Who knows. In my experience not in the short term, but in the long term it will.

From my previous experience, ride quality goes down the ****ter. The stock shocks/struts were designed to be paired with the stock springs. My last car's shocks went to **** after 1 year on eibach pro-kits. Then again, it was a nissan sentra.

it will effect them a long time down the road, not to the point where it warrants getting coilovers though

1 inch is pretty subtle when it comes to lowering the car on stock shocks, but slamming it 2 inches from the H&Rs is a whole new story. Anything more then 1 - 1.5" you might as well go with coilovers for longevity.

On my SE-R, I went with Eibach Pros and within 10k miles the OEM struts were non-functional. Like the others stated, it probably differs (the SE-R's oem struts were probably turds)

probably best to do the coil overs and call it a day, worse case would be that you would have to replace the shocks anyhow down the road and end up paying for another install and parts. with coils you know they are going to last.

... You can't beat the feeling of coilovers on these cars. It's like a whole different beast around turns, especially a 3600lb tank.

The lower the spring, the shorter the shock life. Get the coils where it won't matter as long as you stay in the range from the factory.

I was having the same questions as I wanted to lower the car to about 1" with eibach but afraid it will ruin the oem shocks.. and a little bit too exp for getting the coil, so there's no aftermarket shocks for our G huh?

The stock shocks with aftermarket springs Eventually it will stress out, but not in short term speaking from from previous experience, most likely will last longer than u plan on keepin the car.

springs are not expensive compared to coilovers, i have coilovers because i didnt wanna deal with the hassle of them crapping out later down the road. But, just do it! for now your fine, and when you think they are wearing out, get coilovers

great question. i've heard answers go both ways. added stress adds the shorting lifespan of the struts (obviously). but by how much? no body knows considering h&r sport springs + oem struts (g37s). hm...decisions, decisions...

Coilovers might be the best option...if one can swing the cost.
