Can anyone explain the performance gain that one would get from having coilovers?

if you are going to buy one at a time i would go:
1: fi exhaust..for the sound
2: berk hfc..also for sound
3: coilovers..for looks
4: sway bars..for handling
5: intake..sound maybe? i think its a waste of money, 400 for just sound and no performance.

Performance gain in the area of handling not power. They can be adjusted to any stiffness and ride height. It will corner flatter, brake hard without nose diving, better handlek steering input, etc., etc.

To echo Black Betty's statement, suspension (reads coil overs in this case) is the number one mod you can do to get better track performance/reduced lap times.

The rest is a lot of money for sound and looks. Yes you will get some marginal % increase in hp and torque but even combined it would not translate into better track performace than suspension.

The caveat here is mods that produce significant hp/torque gains like twin turbo.

This is why the #1 mod for performance in IMO should be Coil Overs. As a bonus you also get looks because you can drop the car some as well.

just my .02. I like the sound of the car and do not feel exhasut and intake produce enough hp/torque to justify the mod.

Oh boy! that is going to raise the hair on the back of a lot of necks

Thanks Black Betty and Open Class, are coil overs typically around $1000? I remember seeing the BC ones posted by Black Guy going for $999.
