Question Possible Cheap Decent Exhaust System

So after my prowling on the internet for a halfway decent exhaust that doesn't sound like you're blowing wet farts into a tin can I'm trying to mock something up and was wondering if anyone has some insight.

My cats were both blown and rattling from purchase so now I currently have Megan Racing V2 test pipes on an 08 37 Coupe. They were cheap and a MUCH better option to my car sounding like it was about to throw a rod. Good bang for the buck imo. They have a nice throaty sound in the low rpms, that's pretty much it. The 2-3k rasp gives me nightmares and sometimes I imagine a flock of test piped Gs with exhaust spacers and a muffler delete drowning out any reason to live. Over 5-6k it sounds... okay... a bit better than stock but I do notice a little bit more punch at high speeds thanks to more airflow.

ANYWHO, I was planning on getting the Megan Racing Mid Pipe (Y pipe) as my current Y pipe is worn and the flex joints are nearly torn. The TP+Y Pipe seems like a loud, raspy option but I was planning on
A. Either welding an X Pipe (Magnaflow 10790) onto the existing, new, Megan Racing Mid Pipe, and running the stock system back.
OR
B. Not messing with the Megan Racing Mid Pipe, removing the resonators, and welding a
Magnaflow 11386 Magnaflow 11386
in place.

These Magnaflow options seem notorious in the communities for cleaning up such an exhaust system and eliminating, or heavily reducing, rasp. Any insight is appreciated in advance!

Also, I understand "a proper exhaust system is the only way to go" thank you. I will add it to my notes.

My exhaust is a Frankenstein set-up. All in, I'm <$900. Sound is deep and aggressive with no rasp. Slight drone present at 1,200-1,500 RPM. An off the shelf exhaust would've been much easier and less of a trial and error headache but the current note is exactly where I wanted it and cheaper. Plus, it only wakes up over 3k RPM which is nice for DD.

For your set-up, you need resonators. Either the Magnaflow set-up or Vibrant resonators (on my car) are a great choice. Any ebay Y-pipe will work, just need to then weld in the resonators, either the single Magnaflow one or dual Vibrant pieces and you should be set. Would give you 3-4 resonators and completely kill the rasp.

Awesome. Thank you! Can I ask what you’re running if it was nearly $900? I’d be around <$400. But also keeping some stock piping. I think my best bet would be Y pipe, to the Magnaflow, back to two stock resonators, then the stock muffler back. As you mentioned.

I’m in a similar boat, except I had a local shop run a custom CBE w/ a Magnaflow X pipe and 2 in 2 out muffler. It sounded great with stock cats, but now that I’m running non-resonated TPs, it sounds like a hollow tube with spray paint can beads rattling around in it, especially when you enter the power band around 3K RPM. My wife won’t even drive the car (good lol).

My solution: I’m experimenting here, but I am going to pick up (today) a 370Z NISMO OEM CBE to replace the FrankenFlow setup. I believe the OEM resonators should kill off a good bit of the rasp. If I’m not satisfied (too quiet) then I‘m ordering an axle back to give me some tone back (although I like the notion of having NISMO tips). I’m currently considering TopSpeed or Senki (Japan).

Sorry for the late response, just saw this. I have the circuit works test pipes, Ebay Y-pipe, Vibrant resonators (before the collector/flange to the mid pipe), Top speed Y back from there. So all in, I have four resonators in place (Top Speed comes with two as well).
