K&N air filters causing CEL ?

My "service engine soon" light came on yesterday morning. Checked it to see that it is the same MAP related code I keep getting. P0106 maybe, I can't remember. But I've had this CEL a few times before. I think this is the 4th time. Infiniti has just been replacing sensors everytime I take it in I think, but this time they tell me it's my aftermarket filters. Also, I was lucky enough to have the previous service history of my car. Sure enough before I even owned it, the code was popping up. The car was completely stock when I bought it, so it did not have the K&N filters in it before me. Can these drop in filters really cause this MAP error? Then how would you guys be able to use SRI an CAI without this code... Doesn't make sense to me.

I've used K&Ns on my '09 G37xS for years with no problems. Never had a CEL due to them, but over oiling them can cause problems. After cleaning the filters, I lightly use the K&N filter oil lightly on the outside surface of the filter.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't even had the filters in long enough for them to need cleaning.

I've had those filters for over a year as well, and never had any issues.

Could be bad gas. I had that issue in several different cars (Jag Type F, Merc CLK350, C230 and E550).

Stay with one of the Top Rated Gasoline brands (Top Tier Gasoline) its work for me.

I don't think it's the filters. Do you still have some oem filters you could throw in before you take it to the dealer? They might look a bit more closely if they see familiar gear, rather than just write it off as aftermarket gear they can't/won't troubleshoot.

A K&N filter (even if dripping with oil) can not hurt a MAP sensor. MAF yes, MAP no.

Have you seen this TSB: http://www.infinitig37.com/TSB/ITB12-026d.pdf

Lol, I guess nobody cares to look at the dates of the posts. It's an old thread

Good catch! I normally just check the latest updated threads page, so I'm going to blame the guy that bumped it.
