New Intakes: Could I, Should I, Reset the ECU?

Seems like a simple question, but I wanted to get some perspective.

I'll be bolting up a set of SRIs this weekend, and I was wondering if I should perform an ECU reset?
I saw the sticky on how to do it. I'm still a bit uncertain about it.

- Is necessary or will daily driving be sufficient for re calibrating the systems?
- Can I damage or brick the ECU by resetting it or not doing it properly?
- Should I clean the throttle bodies during the install or is that too many changes at once?
- Is it worthwhile spraying the MAF sensor with MAF cleaner, or don't fix what ain't busted?

I've already base-lined my OEM intakes as far as intake temps and all the PIDs the OBD-II track. Got a week's worth of commuting both ways.

Thanks!

Yes reset the ECU.

All you need to do is disconnect the power terminal from the battery.

I swapped back to stock intakes for a day, did not reset it and my car started bogging out and would not accelerate.

Disconnected the battery for 10 seconds, problem solved

Maf sensor cleaner is a must. You have the sensors out, clean them. It is a preventive maintenance. Make sure you do it when the sensors are completely cool and make sure they air dry before reinstalling them. I let mine sit out for 30 mins.

Well, I have reset the ECU, cleaned the MAFs and the throttle bodies.
Resetting was quite easy, nailed it on the first time. In fact cleaning the TBs and MAFs was easy too.

1. Push start button twice to get - Ignition "ON", count to 3.
2. Depress/Release gas pedal 5 times - hard and fast.
3. Count to 10 (not 7!) and fully depress gas pedal.
4. Count to 12 (SES should be blinking), release gas pedal.
5. Count to 10, depress gas pedal.
6. Count to 10, release gas pedal.
7. Turn off ignition, then start engine. ECU reset is done!

Believe me it doesn't work using the brake pedal no matter how many times you try it or what timing you use!

When you assume. you make an *** out of u and me. LOL!
And just in case someone new to this comes across this discussion: You should NOT use Throttle Body cleaner on your MAFs!
In fact, it is written on the label. One cleaner for your TBs and a entirely different cleaner for your MAFs. They're cheap and easy to find.

And there is a very good DYI for cleaning the TBs and another good DYI for resetting your ECU.

Anyway it all worked out well.

Your engine bay looks fantastic. Really like the cover with the nickel intakes and black strut bar.

Thanks man.
I think I'll start looking into some bolt kits, and maybe braided nylon wire looms.
