STOCK cold air intakes for 2012 G37???

So, I just joined "myg37" the other day after receiving my 2012 G37 6MT. I was speaking with one of the parts guys at the Sacramento Infiniti dealership about installing the Stillen Gen 3 cold air intake. He said it's not really worth it, because in the last model year or two, Infiniti has taken advice and feedback from customers and installed better intakes. Does anyone have any legitimate intel on this, or know where I can find the FACTS with numbers? I'd really like to have the Gen 3 installed, but if this guy was right, is it going to have any benefit? Thanks.

Ahhhhhh Welcome ...... Infiniti took advice or feed back and designed better intakes .... Last time I checked the 2012 have the same intake as my 2008 ... If you pay me I can give you all the info you need on these and any other mod for this car ... I also take PayPal but you have to include the 3% fee ..

The parts guy is suffering from a very clear case of rectal cranial inversion.

Perhaps what the dealer was trying to say was that Infiniti did a lot of work on the stock intakes and designed them to optimize volume and flow. I guess this is true, but the aftermarket intake you mention, the stillen 3G does provide a slight power gain, so Infiniti didn't get everything they could out of it. Of course their design was balanced between power, reliability and cost of production.

So, long story short, yes, Infiniti did do a lot on the intakes, but they are not new for 2012 and an aftermarket one will give you a little bit more power (although not enough to really notice).

As a general tip, what your dealer says will rarely be the whole truth.

Unsure what you mean here. The IPL has the same exhaust in 2012 as in 2011 if thats what you mean.

I meant IPL exhaust/intake being different than standard.

Intakes don't do much by the ways of performance. You will get nice throaty sound out of them. However as far as speed and HP go, it is barely noticeable to the average driver. The way to get noticeable performance is get an intake, install an exhaust or High Flow Cats, and then GET AN ECU TUNE. That is where you will feel it.

Keep in mind you will exceed probably $2k when all is said and done...

It's expensive to get more power and to go faster !

Technically, the G37 HAS an OEM cold air intake. It does not get it's air from the engine compartment. The intakes get cold(er) air from in front of the radiator support.
