What can I realistically expect to gain from a true dual cat-back?

Going to pull the trigger and get a CBE ordered this week. I've settled on the Invidia Gemini as it has all the characteristics I'm looking for, as well as being easy on my wallet. I fully expect to not see any gains from a catback, maybe 5 whp if I'm lucky. I know they are primarily just for looks/sound. However, I was reading through some old posts and it seems like some people get some pretty significant gains with a CBE, although HFCs and a tune might also play a big factor. Are there any differences in power gain between the major exhaust brands?

So what do you guys think I can expect to gain from a catback on an otherwise stock car?

Thanks

ANY bolt on mods will give you very small gains (they can actually hurt performance) until you get a tune.

That being said, with a Stillen Gen3 CAI, Berk HFC's, and ARK exhaust I gained 19 WHP/16 WTQ from a tune

Do you think you realized any gains from your mods before the tune? Or was it only after. That certainly makes sense that the more bolt ons you have, the more you stand to benefit from a tune. Used to have long tubes on my old f-body camaro, and those saw a 30 whp gain ONLY after a tune, before it was negligible.

I figured I wouldn't really need a tune until I at least had HFCs, and it was my understanding that HFCs are a mod that would likely hurt more than help until a tune.

the intake was the biggest difference from before/after install. the HFC's were slight, and the exhaust was negligable. but after the tune, holy **** it was like driving a totally different car.

but keep in mind, a tune isn't just like following a checklist, the quality of the tune depends 100% on the tuner actually knowing what they are doing. it is as much of an art as it is a science. make sure to go somewhere that knows their stuff. where are you at?

I'm based out of Houston and Dallas. Not sure where the good Nissan tuners are around here, although that's something definitely worth checking out. What are the major drawbacks of getting a tune? Will it destroy my gas mileage or something?

Like I said, my previous experience with a tune are with an 02 camaro, although I wasn't as concerned about any negatives as it wasn't a daily driver. If I remember correctly my tune gave me awesome gains, however it idled rough from cold startup. It also smelled bad, but that could have just been my test pipes lol.

Thanks for the info hispeed.

PM Boxer, he lives in TX and will know where to go.

Actually I haven't noticed anything negative from the tune. It startsup smoother, idles at ~700 RPM, and my MPG has gone up ~1 (nothing huge, but it definitely didnt go down).

Yeah and your smell was definitely from test pipes, those things smell like poo haha

If you can make it to Atlanta at all go to Forged and have Sharif tune your car. IMO he is the best Infiniti/Nissan tuner, period.

JTran Studios uses uprev which has had some good results on the G from what I've seen. He is here in Houston and has a good reputation. Also, Powerfab here in Houston is another local G favorite shop. I plan on going to JTran once I get my HFC's. Have been to the shop and talked to several of the guys there and they know their stuff. Good luck man!

Also, Blackbetty may know of some others to suggest. A local G37 owner that is pretty knowledgeable. You're welcome Jeremy.
