I have an appointment for Monday to get my second muffler now replaced. Hopefully it will be the updated design.

Someone mentioned about DS mode- That doesn't do anything to affect the muffler. The muffler was designed to handle back pressure and plenty of other envioronmental forces.

Today, I just dropped it off at the dealership. They had not had the issue come up before but the shop foreman heard the noise and said, "OK I hear it, not normal".

It really does buzz as much as it does rattle. I was afraid I could not reproduce it but I left the engine off for 10 minutes, then revved in park with the doors open with him in the car and it was plenty loud. It's a bitter higher octave than the normal raspiness of the car. It's been getting progressively worse with 4000 miles on the car now.

They kept the car and gave me a loaner. I wonder how I can be sure I get the "new muffler". He did not say that he was going to replace the muffler but I did tell him about this thread and he said he would replace the muffler if he could verify that it was indeed the muffler.

If I could talk to that rep maybe I could get him to call my service adviser.

Service adviser called again this morning, said part may take a few more days, said I could switch cars while waiting if I wanted. He said he'd call and let me know for sure the ETA on the part. I called Infiniti Consumer Affairs and spoke to a real nice lady who checked the parts order and confirmed that the part is ordered. She said they always send the latest version of all parts and the parts are updated often but she could not determine that that part had been changed and could not find a TSB on it.

So after all these posts and threads about exhaust rattle, has anyone posted up a sound clip of this yet!? There are a lot of us in the community who really would like to know what you all are experiencing.

Back to the topic though, I hope the refit of the new exhaust piece works for you guys.

I'll try to post a sound clip before I get mine fixed. But just imagine a sound similar to sawing into metal.

does recall mean they acknowledge that everyone's muffler is vulnerable to it and we all get updated mufflers?? or does it just help those having the problem to not have to haggle for a new one?

A recall would mean that all cars would have their muffler replaced regardles of whether they were experiencing the issue. Depending on whether it was a voluntary recall or mandatory recall one might opt not to have it replaced. Sometimes there is a time frame on when you would need to respond.

True, but if it does it sure is nice to know that they can slap a new one on in about 24 hours while I drive a pretty nice G35. They get parts faster than any dealer I have ever been too. And it wasn't a takeofff, it has some sticker still on it.

Thumbs up muffler problem again

just got my third muffler installed.

Sound is different, less drone.

CSR rep at infiniti claims they made a new muffler in february 08.

I got my G back in august of 07.

I would suggest anyone with rattle/buzzing sound get muffler replaced good to go.
