1st 3 weeks

I had to special order my G37S in order to not get a sunroof but I think it was worth it. I have had the car 3 weeks now and am very happy. There is a 100 pounds less weight and a lot more headroom without the sunroof (which I like being 6' 2"). Everything is really tight and I am eagerly awaiting completing my break in.

On the trip back from Galveston to Houston, I got a solid 24 mpg (nearly all highway). Considering I dont even have 400 miles yet I am happy with that.

Mine is Athens Blue with no spoiler and its a gorgeous car.

I got my car from Gunn Infiniti San Antonio TX. They snagged me a platinum graphite without sunroof. Seems like we are in the same boat for a pure sports model. The only thing I miss is the auto dimming mirror and maybe the backup camera.

But yeah after the break in it is fun as hell to drive. Our cars don't have to much power at the lower end of the RPM range but you really start to feel the power at 3000 rpms. But yeah I can't begin to tell you how fast and fun this car is and you will be amazed how fast the car can take a turn.

The beauty is that if you're willing to wait a little bit, you can get exactly the car you want. As for me, I'm with Motor25, I'd wait for a special ordered car just to get a sunroof.

Congrats on the car! Another Houston area owner. Try to make it to the 1st G37 meet in Memorial Park tomorrow afternoon to meet and greet with other H-Town area owners. (I know it's short notice) https://www.myg37.com/forums/upcoming-events/179081-houston-tx-meet-april-13-a.html

sunroof

The sunroof adds 100 pounds at the top of the car, which is the worst place for handling. It subtracts over 1" of headroom and can be maintenance problem if you keep the car a long time. It also reduces the structural integrity of the car. You get less accelleration, worse handling, and worse gas mileage.

I have had a sunroof on a previous car and did not use it much.

Hmmm.. I highly doubt the impact is that significant.

IF it is actually 100 pounds...that is significant. The rest is not at all.

There is nothing wrong with having a sunroof if you want one. I was just explaining why I didn't. The biggest factor for me was the headroom. Its an awesome car either way.

I also didn't want the sunroof for similar reasons you mentioned. Such as weight my brother is all into autocrossing and he says that the sunroof does make the structure weaker. His has a mazda 3 without a sunroof and the structure does not flex compared to one that has a sunroof. Now I know I can't compare mazda to infiniti but the difference is there for structural integrity. however gasmilage would not be affected as much. but headroom is definatly a plus and i don't use a sunroof anyways.
