Let a local shop change my oil this weekend and I drove home afterwards. It sat Saturday and Sunday. On the way to work this morning I heard what sounded like a rock ricochet under the car. Got to work and smelled burning oil. A coworker came over and noticed it too. When I got out to investigate we saw oil pouring from under my car. Jacked it up and pulled the plastic back and found the drain plug gone! Called the shop and told them. Of course that's impossible they say. Had it towed to the shop and they verified what I said. They checked threads were ok and replaced the plug. They gave me a card to call if anything happens in the next few days and my next 3 oil changes for free🙄
Should I be concerned since oil did come out once parked? No noise while driving and it seems just as quiet now.
It’ll be fine. Modern engines can actually run farther than most folks think with absolutely no oil. If you still had some draining out when you got to your destination then it never was completely dry. My opinion is that it’ll be fine, but you might want some sort of documentation that it happened and that the shop is responsible just in case should there be any issues down the road.
It definitely concerns me. I was glad some oil was actually running out once I was parked. A buddy of mine and I actually followed the trail of oil for a good half mile. I'm talking a trail 4-6 inches wide where I slowed to turn or go across railroad tracks. The rest of it was still a solid trail not just drips. Scary.
