2011 G37 - Loud Clunking Sound Under Front End

Hello All -

I have a noise issue with my 2011 G37 sedan that is driving me crazy. It has developed a loud bang, coming from the front end, which is so loud, it sounds like I hit another car or something. I hear it most when I'm at speed on the freeway and now I'm hearing it on the roadway, when going over 50. It doesn't happen going over normal bumps, pot holes or uneven ground. It happens when I hit seams running across the freeway or raised areas sticking up from the road. I had installed some caliper covers and thought it was them clunking...removed them and the noise continued. I replaced the struts....no change. I even removed the plastic stone guard because it buzzed when I hit it.

Does anyone have an idea what could be causing this noise.....very annoying and frustrating.

Many thanks !

Welcome.

There have been a lot of people chasing front-end noises latey. You might your sway bar bushings, end-link or brake caliper bolts.

Hi and thanks for your reply......I'll look deeper into the areas you mentioned and report. I've never heard such a loud sound coming from the suspension / steering / wheels like this in any car I've ever owned. This G is a great vehicle, and I'm a noise freak, so it's served me well in the area of noises and fit / finish but wow, this sound is something. I hope this digging in fixes it. Many thanks !

Also check that your wheels are seated and the nuts are tight.

Thanks ! .......that I have done. I've purchased some Moog end links and Hotchkis swaybar brackets. They all go on next weekend. I'll let you know if my sanity has been restored.

I had clunk noise at low speeds going over bumps (like parking lot speed bumps). The noise was from the sway bar end links. Changed out and fixed the issue. Moog end links have grease fittings for maintenance.

A recent thread in the brake & suspension forum fixed a front-end clunk by rebuilding the brake calipers.
