If you have cooking thermometer, you can test the thermostat in a pot of water. If it's open by 180 degrees F, it's good.

Once you get problem solved and are ready to add fresh radiator fluid dont forget to add a bottle of water wetter

I have a Mishimoto thermostat and it throws a CEL for opening up at a lower temp (150) vs 174 so the CEL if it indiacates thermostat opening at lower temp is normal since the thermostat is opening sooner than it should

@Rico1991 So I am still having the CEL issue. Your having the same? did you test to make sure its working ?
