Help Power steering fluid drain+fill
Power steering fluid drain+fill
Kind of silly question...but how do I get the fluid out of the power steering reservoir? I am using a plastic turkey baster, but it feels like it is hitting a wall inside the reservoir.
What do you mean hitting a wall? Are you trying to remove more fluid than is in the resovoir?
Here's the procedure I used when I changed the PS fluid in one of my previous cars. The G should not be any different.
1. Empty as much fluid from the resovoir as possible. Its okay to leave some in there.
2. Refill the resovoir with new fluid. Tightly screw the cap back onto the PS resovoir.
3. Turn the steering wheel with the car on from lock to lock several times. This will circulate the new fluid in with the old fluid.
4. Repeat as many times as necessary until the fluid in the resovoir looks clean after turning the steering wheel. I think I remember having to do this like 8 times on my Mustang until the fluid looked relatively clean.
That's going to be the easiest way. I hope that helps.

I just used a short length of vinyl tubing slipped over the end of the baster to make an extension that I could drop down through the hole in the top of the reservoir.

Hmmmm....just wondering if one was better than the other. The manual states Nissan PSF or Dexron VI...I thought Matic-S was different than Dexron VI...
Was trying to save some time and money but I might just get the PSF from the dealer and try to change as much as I can...
