ABS sensor rear axel fabric

So my ABS and Traction Dash lights came on had no idea what was wrong, I take it to the dealer and they call me saying that fabric/material/cloth was wrapped up under the rear axel. They said warranty wont cover it and they will just have to tear off the fabric and reset the light, I told them to go ahead with the job. He calls an hour later telling me that the fabric caused the sensor to go bad blah blah blah warranty wont cover it it will be $735. Wow. $303 for the sensor and ~$400 for labor. I told them to go **** themselves and took my car out of the dealer. The sensor was replaced by my private mechanic in less than 3 minutes, but the light is still lit. He was unable to reset the light. Anyone with more info and suggestions?

The mechanic said maybe the dealer messed around with something else, knowing I was taking the car out of their hands, in retaliation.

I can suggest maybe not talking to people that way the future if you need them to do something for you? Hopefully your mechanic figures it out. The price may be double what was originally quoted after what you told them. Or perhaps they won't deal with you and your car at all now. Try a different dealer maybe where you haven't insulted them.

Still like BB said you shouldn't talk to people that way period. You know anytime you take a vehicle to the dealership it's going to cost more. No sense in getting pissed off about it. Plus if you had your own OBD scanner I bet it would have cost you even less. So at that point do you cuss out your mechanic?

I often get my cars worked on by dealerships, for one they are traning with their vehicles. Many times they know better than some Joe in the corner shop (not always). I know when I set foot in the door that I am going to pay too much, that is a given. Instead of getting pissed you should have just politely said thanks for the quote, I will let you know if or when I would like to schedule an appointment and leave.

Case in point. I had a check engine light come on and I was out of town. I took my Jeep to the dealership, it was going to cost X amount to figure out the problem, then I would get that back when they did the work but no quote yet. I drove it for a while and decided it was something that could wait. Once home I was catching a plane so I had my wife take it to a mechanic we use pretty often. He said it was a sensor and was going to cost $180.00 parts and labor. I had her take the Jeep back home. When I got home I hooked it up to my scanner, it was an air intake sensor, paid $22.00 for the part and fixed it with less than 2 minutes labor. What I am getting at is I would paid these other places if I needed to but I had time. I didnt cuss anyone out, everyone has to make a living. I didn't belittle anyone as people's time is of value.

What I charge for what I do I am sure some would think is highway robbery, but I provide a service, preform it in a very timely fashion, and do it with professional crews and take a lot of crap of my clients backs. They find this of great value and pay the price. I am very knowledgeable in what I do and have a great ability to solve problems. Customers pay for that. They can go over to Joe at another company and save money in the short run if they so choose. If they talked to me like you did to the dealership, then get in a jam where they "have" to use my services what do you think I would tell them? Not much but my price would double.

I was stranded 200+ miles from my house with a bad wheel bearing in my '01 i30. I got to the destination after experiencing some "rumble strip" feeling while changing lanes, and thats what it turned out to be. On Friday night. Had to leave to come home Sunday morning.

The only place I trusted was the local Nissan dealer. Did I pay a lot? Hell yeah, but they made it crystal clear they would have the car ready to go for me. They basically only had whatever shortened Saturday service hours they had to replace the wheel bearing on my car, without any previous appointment. And they came through perfectly.

So, sometimes, its worth going to the dealer. The service you'll get (most of the time) and the peace of mind knowing the person working on it actually knows your car is well worth the cost.

And honestly, just being a decent human, no reason to swear at anyone no matter how much they want to charge. Be the bigger person and say thanks but no thanks, but dont cuss them out. There is a flat rate book somewhere that says thats what it costs. The service person you talked to is probably just "relaying the message", no need to shoot the messenger.

I didn't literally cuss them out. But I was rude since the service adviser kept changing the story, and my instinct told me the fruit was up to something, since he was buddy buddy with the mechanic. I have no problem with honest work, but I wont return to that dealer again (only for oil changes) and after my lease is over I will return that car back to them
