5th gear syncro
5th gear syncro
Driving about 45 and shifted into 5th the other day cruising to work..... grind....... because i had just woken up I figured I didnt push the clutch all the way or something. turned the corner 5th gear..... grind...... I know this is a known problem but just wanted to post this here since I am going tysons corner dealership tomorrow. Ill let you know how this goes since i beleive this gets a new tranny on the house. Car has about 36k miles on it.
Every time
Every time i take it into them the car is fine. When they told me nothing was wrong i actually said bull#$%#. The whole way home the car was fine... could not replicate it. Today leaving work.... did it a few time..... hate this
^ that's because when you take it to the dealer they just run a clutch diagnostic and it shows as ok. Ask to go for a drive along with the head mechanic and show him what's going on.
One of the senior mechanics at the dealer near me literally said that even if they know for sure there's a problem there has to be a history that you've come in for the problem several times and they've tried everything else. Then they can order a replacement tranny for you
I've been dealing with this for a while now too my 2nd and 6th gear syncros are shot

Can you define what a clutch diagnostic is? I mean if the pedal is hard, there's no leaks, and gears shift smoothly with the car running, what more is there to diag?

Computer and Internal Diagnostics
Our advanced computer and internal diagnostics are the next level of diagnostics that ensure AAMCO technicians will only fix what needs fixing. Many transmission problems start in the computer system of today's highly technical, computer-controlled vehicles - your transmission receives the wrong signals from your vehicle's computer system. The AAMCO Computer Diagnostic Service is performed to determine if an electronic component is affecting your transmission's shifting or overall performance and includes:
Using a computer system scanner to retrieve any trouble codes and to determine the probable cause. All critical computer systems in the vehicle are checked for trouble codes, because a variety of systems could cause driveability issues.
Reviewing the computer system data against our proprietary AAMCO technical database - the most extensive transmission computer diagnostic source available anywhere.
Connecting the AAMCO Kwiktestâ„¢ PlusBox to see whether the problem is inside or outside of the transmission in the computer system.
Your certified AAMCO center technician will also:
Check the electronic components
Check the solenoids and sensors
Check the wiring that effects the transmission, solenoids and sensors
Your AAMCO certified technician can then determine if an electronic component or part needs to be replaced, and make a recommendation for whatever service is necessary. It is our comprehensive diagnostic approach that sets AAMCO apart, so that you only get the repair you need and your car, truck or SUV is back on the road as soon as possible.

Took mine in this morning because of the grind from 5th to 6th. Granny / double clutching is no problem. The tech tried shifting faster and felt the grinding. We are awaiting a "go" for a new transmission.
I have the 2010 6MT grinding/crunching noise shifting into 5th (unless I granny shift or double clutch). We ALL need to officially log our issues on the DOT NHTSA site Vehicle Safety | National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)
as consumer complaints, which may evolve into TSBs and force Infiniti to address these issues !
My 6MT was just replaced under warranty, no questions asked. Bits and pieces of my 5th gear synromesh were evident in the tranny fluid !!

Had the same problem with mine. Fifth gear, especially when cold, it would grind. Infiniti installed a new tranny under warranty. I was only 40 miles from the 70K mile warranty, so they told me to just leave the car with them, so it would be covered.
