K&N Air Filter

Anyone using K&N air filters? cost $75.00 each and the G37 S requires 2 of them. Been using Fram air filters at $20.00 and it seems fine but alot of people swear by K&N, so what your opinion.....

you are talking about the drop ins? They are 46.39 on amazon. Given the washability and warranty, I am going that direction once the original OEMs are done. Of course, that's if I don't go for CAI or something similar.

^^ me too. Going to replace OEMs with K&Ns once they're done.
Got almost 12K miles. Time to check if I need to replace them.

I don't think K&N are really worth the money.

I have used them for 3 previous cars and never really noticed a difference.

I say if you really want cheap ghetto power just don't run with a filter, but risk sucking in a rock or something.

I have also never noticed any power gain with CAI or short ram intakes, although short rams do make it sound different for better or worse.

You aren't likely to pickup a bunch of power just with a filter swap. The nice thing about filters like K&N is that they are reusable/washable so over time you may save on money, but trying to feel a gain in power isn't really going to happen.

I'll just stick with OEM, although I like the idea of a reusable filter. I prefer to keep it stock.

I have them - unrealistic to think they will get you noticeably (or perhaps any) improved performance. Is there an economic advantage? Perhaps if you plan to keep your car long enough.

I could be imagining it, but it seems like there is a slight sound difference.

Please understand. Filters are replacement part on your car. When you first get your car filters are new. Without any dirt or oil to impede air flow into your car. Replacing your air filter every 15K will give you some noticeable change to your car initially.

Changing mine using OEM at 15K gave me that small notice of engine getting more power. Not choking on low RPM or shifting early.

Changing mine using K&N at 30K IMO gave wider torque band. Both on high and low. Everyone who have driven my G both on the street and at the track. Noticed that little subtle performance gain.

Now if you want HP go with CAI.

JEB Performance from this forum is providing 2x K&N air filters and Aerosol Cleaners all for $120. Aerosol Cleaners same from K&N alone cost more than $20. Beats $180 filters alone by far. And $120 is including free shipping.

Get a CAI and a Cat back exhaust and THEN tell me you feel no difference.

You will.

10 hp makes a difference. Small and not all that noticeable, but a difference. But 20-25?

Yessir, you gon' feel dat.

If you're keeping the stock intake setup, just go with OEM

2008 G37 coupe with roughly 8500 miles at the time. I had to take my K and N filters out after about 3 weeks because I lost too much low end torque. They caused a very noticable delay in power delivery at lower speeds in any gear. With the factory filters I could spin the tires from a standstill but with the K and N's no matter how hard I tried I couldn't. On the highway though the car was so smooth and I could push in the pedal about a half of an inch and the transmission would downshift and the car would take off.
