Pennzoil Oil Type for the G - Platinum or Ultra?
I was on the Pennzoil Selector and noticed the recommended oil for our cars is their Platinum, not Ultra.
Anyone know why? I thought Ultra was a better oil than Platinum.
I've left them an email, will report back.
Click here, you'll see what I mean. And it's not that they haven't updated their website, as it shows Ultra for other cars (BMW, Mercedes, etc.)

That means Nissan's engines are more reliable than the Germans'. You can run 'em on cheap oil and they still last. LOL

bought my car new and my first oil change was to the Nissan Ester. Then I went to the Pennzoil Platinum. Now I'm back to the Ester.......and honestly, seems to feel and run smoother with the Ester.

I got the same recommendation from their site: Pennzoil Platinum. I emailed Pennzoil for their reasons not to show Ultra as their recommendation for the G37's, and here's their response...
"Our website has not been updated with Pennzoil Ultra for your
application. It meets the requirements for Infiniti.
Technical Department"
The OP said that it shows Ultra for some makes, though. So, I'm still a little confused, too.

It probably shows the lower end oil because a lot of people prefer to save a little money when they can. That does not mean that the higher grade product will not work well for the application in question.
My experience with the Ultra has been a positive one, as shown by the UOAs I have posted for it.

Pennzoil did reply, same answer Giantkiller got. They misspelled Infiniti, too:
Dear Consumer,
The Pennzoil Platinum is listed as the premium oil simply because the information has not been updated yet. The Pennzoil Ultra should/will be listed as the premium oil in the future for the Infinity.
Best Regards,
Technical Service

i think i prefer the platinum. i notice no difference in the g between platinum and ultra, but platinum worked wonders on my explorer and my girlfriends scion. both cars were loud and harsh running on conventional oil, but are almost silent running on platinum. i think i'll go back to platinum for the g on the next change.

You've got one of the best wear metal UOAs I have ever seen in a G37 on Pennzoil Platinum. 5000 miles and 16 total parts wear vs. 41 total parts wear for the Universal Average.
I don't see how you can go wrong with Platinum. I might try their 10W30 formulation.

LMK how the 10W30 goes, I was thinking of doing that myself, particularly during the summer season.
