Lockout Protection

Hello all, anyone experienced this?? In the manual on page 3-11 it talks about lockout protection when referring to the trunk. It states, "When the trunk lid is closed with the intelligent key inside the trunk, the outside buzzer will sound and the trunk will open."

I tried this after first reading about it in the manual and it worked fine. Tonight a friend came by who hadn't seen my new ride yet. She's checking out the car and I'm demonstrating the intelligent key system for unlocking and locking the doors and trunk.

She's talking about how cool that is and as we're standing at the trunk I say, "Yeah, it's pretty cool. It even has a built-in lockout feature so you can't accidentally lock the key in the car." With that, I toss the key in the trunk and close it.

Well, of course, this time when I'm trying to showoff a cool feature of the car I get no outside buzzer, no trunk open, no nothing except a key locked in the trunk!!!

Fortunately, we were at my house where my other key is so I could just go in and get it to unlock the trunk. Good thing I didn't try to demonstrate this feature somewhere else!!

I tried it a few more times and the lockout feature never worked for the trunk. It works if I leave the key in the car and try to lock the doors but not for the trunk.

Dave

Yeah that is weird. I've left my keys in my golf bag a few times and tried closing the trunk but the lid just bounced without the lock engaging.

Well, I guess it's not that big of a deal. I can't remember ever having locked my keys in my trunk. And that's with 35 years of opening trunks when you had to have the key in your hand, mine always stays in my pocket now.

Course, it would be nice to know it worked just in case! I guess I'll take the car back to the dealer for the first oil change and have them look at that while I'm there. Maybe some sensor in the trunk died.

Dave

p.s. I just thought of this. When I tried the function earlier and it worked, I hadn't installed the cargo net yet. Now it's installed, surely that couldn't interfere with anything, could it??

It's not the cargo net, that affects nothing at all. I locked mine in the trunk as well (on purpose to test the feature out). My doors were unlocked and window down though, maybe that made a difference.

Does the car start if the keys are in your golf bag in the trunk? That's as close to a purse as we can get, damn pockets.

Ya i think if your doors are unlocked it will allow you to close the trunk. Not sure though.
