Its not a bad idea to change the oil around 500-1000 miles.. It's one of those topics with no real answer so do what you thinks best. In any case, oil is oil so just grab whatever's cheapest, no need to spend the money on full synthetic.

well, my service advisor who's been with nissan for 25 years says the vq's shouldn't see synthetic before 5k miles. he recommends 7.5k as a good time to switch to synth. oil.

vinny, I'd pass on the synthetic also. Other than that go with what you like. I like Castrol. Are you doing it yourself or taking it to the dealer? I have always changed my own up to now but I already have it scheduled at Infiniti. I hear the filter is underneath which is a pain.

^I've always filled the empty's back with used oil and brought it to my gas station for recycling like a good citizen. Some towns take them also. Empty washer fluid container is good also.

For me it's too much money because I change mine every 3K. I thought the synth is for people that don't want to change that often. I like to always keep oil fresh.

Sorry vinny, didn't mean to hijack the thread.

i was told that in the vq35 series, the rings took a longer time than average to seat correctly and the synthetics would only add to this.

also, take your used oil and filter to jiffy lube. they recycle it and use it as their bulk fill oil.

Really? There are plenty of posts on the many of G35/Z forums all over the web, including many from Nissan/Infinity techs.
