Coolant scent inside cab no visible leak

Hey guys for a couple years now I have had coolant issues with my car but no overheating issues.

I am up in Canada where it gets pretty cold and usually the leaking happens in the sun zero temps.

long story short I had the car serviced at a Nissan dealer where the put green coolant rather than the blue coolant “complimentary service for accidentally pulling off my hose during an inspection”.

Now here is my concern I saw in the garage a decent pool of coolant maybe 50ml worth in my garage. And I noticed the reservoir tank won’t go up or down when hot or cold leading me to think either the system is not building enough pressure due to a leak or the radiator cap is seized and is not letting extra pressure into the tank rather letting it weep out of a weak junction. Very hard to tell if the scents coming from my car or other cars as usually it goes away when I turn on the recirculating so clearly my heater core is fine.

Nissan said that cap has been discontinued and they can’t find me one that’s compatible.

min the spring I’ll be doing a full radiator flush and changing the fluid back to the blue stuff and cleaning all the edges that have corrosion.

let me know your thoughts or if anyone has the same experience.

Have you checked your heater hose behind the engine on the passenger side? There is a plastic connecting clamp that goes between the two hoses, and that tends to crack.

oh very interesting I was told there should be no plastic back there worth cracking. I’ll have to check it’s hard to know with the splash guard where the leak is originating from but now I can go look. Thanks for the help!
