Instrument cluster lighting
Instrument cluster lighting
2009 G37S / 6MT purchased used with 70k miles in 2019. When I bought it the coolant temperature gauge ‘face’ lighting would occasionally be inoperative. It seemed possibly linked to ambient temperature as it almost always worked when it was 60 degrees or warmer but was more intermittent at lower temps. In addition, the tachometer face lighting (7 - 9,000) would occasionally flicker as well. The pointers on both instruments (as well as everything else in the cluster) have always worked normally. Now at 98k the coolant gauge face is dark almost all the time with occasional drives when the face is illuminated.
Is there a particular harness/wire/connector I should be looking at? Or, is this an internal fault that requires a cluster removal and repair? Should I anticipate the pointer illumination may fail as well in the future?
Thanks for your help.

I posted some pics of the internals of the cluster here.
Unfortunately, your issue it a bit worse than my center screen failing because you can't just swap it out (without losing the mileage). The issue is the solder joints / LEDs failing on the cluster backlight. The only proper fix to retain mileage is to desolder and replace all the individual LEDs on your cluster backlight.
