R2C Filter Removal for Cleaning

Hello,

I am new to the forums, just had 2x questions. When I bought my car it came with an R2C Cold Air intake with Black Hex filters. I am at the mileage where I would like to take them out to clean them. I took off the worm clamp and tried to take the filter out, but there is very little wiggle room as it is right up against some structural support. Wondering if anyone has tips on removing these. I just don't want to damage anything. Also I looked on the forum and did not find too much details on taking them out, basically just move it around.

Also what size worm clamp is used on this kit for the filter section? I could not find any mention on what dia range worm clamp is used. Clamps on the kit stated at (2-1/16" to 3") (52mm to 76mm) for all clamps in kit.

Thanks,

If there's not enough clearance for the filter to move forward and off the lip of the midpipe, then you have to disconnect the midpipes from the throttle bodies and remove the entire intake assembly. I do this once a year for a deep detailing of the components. Before you do that, unclamp the crankcase vent hoses, and unbolt the tie-down brackets to the filter shields. Oh, and disconnect the MAF sensors.. but that's all kind of obvious once you get at it.

Hey, first post, first thread, with a solid pic no less...Welcome to the forum!

Thank you very much for the info and help! I read your R2C lessons learned post and found near the end the mention of the worm clamp diameters needed. Thank you again!

Small update, to this post. Just wanted to share this info with anyone who has this R2C kit. I got new Black Hex filters installed and R2C recommended to clean them every 3000 miles with compressed air from the inside out. To take them out without taking apart the whole kit, I just had to pull up on them and they came free (worm clamp removed of course). New filters and worm clamps, also a N8's Plates to fix my missing cover emblem (Not an IPL but I like the logo look on the cover and the infiniti logo I found was too big unfortunately).

Look at all those allenhead bolts... that's creative. Nice!

Here's a simple tip for engine bay detailing: use a microfiber cloth to apply and buff Tire Gel on the matte black plastics. I guarantee a WTF moment.

Thank you and thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it! I saw posts with how clean your engine bay is and wonder what the secret was.

The bolts are actually from a kit, it's the Bolt Boys Kit from Down Star. Simple stainless steel and aluminum washer kit.

Bolt Boys!

Oh hey, that's a nice kit! Very thorough. Even collars for the strut towers and the hood clamp.

I like it. Good find.
