Here's another streetview of that road in IA. https://goo.gl/maps/zbAqiUALmLD2

On the map it looks like a straight line, boring as can be, but turned out to be anything but.

The whole trip is recorded on dash cam, but it's easier to copy/paste location from the gps log direct to google street view.

Elevation plot is also from the gps log. Most current garmin's have a hidden developer menu where you can set it to drop a bread crumb every second as opposed to the dynamic default which drops fewer crumbs on straights, more around curves.

Later those files can be opened in basecamp or mapsource (free from garmin) to retrieve elevation plots, speed around corners, distance details, etc.

Here's a snippet - elevation is under the show profile button

Elevation plot's cool too, which software/app?
That does seem like a good idea. Near me, I have a few roads that dive sharply down to the waterline at the Bay (I live near Lake Ontario). And I have this highway extension with traffic circles every half mile like a pearl necklace.

Other than that, the area is relatively flat unless you go South.

Looking forward to seeing some crazy road videos from you GoPro users.

The longest roadtrip I took was the day I bought my G almost 4 years ago in MN and drove it home to WI- about 300 miles. Now we take my wife's Maxima on road trips because it is smoother and quieter. I guess that is why I have such low mileage on the car. There were some good sights on that 1st drive, but unfortunately I did not get any on film. The car looks and drives a lot different now. Here is a pic from the 1st day:

I took a trip in May of this year in my 2009 G37x Sedan from Virginia to Montreal with a stop in New York City on the first day. We then drove up to Montreal the next day. The real fun was when I had to drive from Montreal back to Virginia in one straight shot. It was approximately 850+ miles with stops only for gas and took about 15 hours. The car handled it extremely well with zero issues. My body however did not fair so well. I developed a case of sun poisoning on the way home and after driving for that long I did not want to drive at all for a few days. I had no doubt the car would make it and it did everything I asked it to without hesitation. When we go to Toronto next year I will be flying though...

Just got back from a 1318 mile round trip from ATL to Washington DC. Top mpg was 28.4 which is pretty impressive since I averaged 75+ mph. Mpg's went down to 24 when I got into heavy traffic about 80 miles outside of DC. I thought ATL traffic was bad....

6MT.
Mine is 7AT (wanted an X because I live on a mountain where it snows), but the 6MT's are more rare, and it's not uncommon to do some searching to find one.

Well I no longer have a G but just did a 3059 mile round trip from NJ to Florida in my 16 Q70
Best MPG on a single tank was 25.34 MPG.
All regular 87 octane

Recently test drove a Tesla Model S which is now on my bucket list which requires no octane at all.

Longest single one way trip was moving back home from Nashville to Boise with some sight seeing and diversions along the way (Arkansas diamond park, Grand Canyon, Moab, etc.). Total mileage was just over 3K. Avg mpg 27-28. Avg speed 70-75 until hitting the western interstates with 80 mph speed limits. Did hit 35 mpg w tail wind doing 55 into Santa Fe on a 50 mile two lane short cut. Car was loaded down pretty good. Never felt any fatigue...great road car!

Did my standard ~300 mile run back home to NY, but this time with the new exhaust system (Motordyne). First longer drive since the install. Plenty of interstate miles, drone was pretty minimal. And once I got NYC, the exhaust just BOOMS against the infrastructure. Buildings, retention walls, overpasses, tunnels. Fun times. Kinda feels like the sound is getting better after some miles (prob all in my head).

Took some photos along the way. Anyone take their G on some cool road trips recently?

Hit 95 early enough to hit the Delaware bridge by sunrise

Rest stop on the NJTP to stretch the ole legs

Pit stop at one of my favorite bakeries in BK

Then a quick stop in Cobble Hill for coffee with a friend

Cruised down to Pier 2 for a quick lap around the park (rusty ole BQE up top)

So glad you're enjoying the new exhaust. That pic of the Delaware Bridge is gorgeous.

Wish I saw this thread a lot earlier!

Zero prep, me and a friend embarked to MO from MA at 1am on a Tuesday night/morning. I had just worked a the entire day Monday and we needed to make it out west for Wednesday. I had a miscellaneous exhaust leak to keep us awake and needed an oil change by the time we were halfway. Stopped at a friend’s family members shop, did the oil change, and tried to wrap whatever I thought was leaking with cheap exhaust tape.. Power nap, back on the road.

After sleeping in my backseat Wednesday night (barely), we made it back to MA around 5-6am? By then the exhaust leak had gotten much louder. My test pipe flange decided to blow apart..

MPG was around 18-20 if I remember correctly, the exhaust leak didn’t help, and we were strapped for time. So about 1400 miles one way, 2800 miles total not counting side quests in just a few days.

Not many long trips in the G37, but I did own a G35 Sport model sedan prior and drove it from San Diego to Dallas twice and it averaged 30mpg on each leg. A little higher than that on the flat portion of the drive between Dallas and Arizona, but once I hit the mountains near CA it dropped a tad.

My last trip to Phoenix from San Diego in the G37 averaged 28.7.

These cars seem to do well MPG-wise on long drives if you use cruise control and hold them to about 2500 rpms on flat stretches of terrain.

I wish there was an aftermarket oil and transmission temp gauge that I could install in an OEM+ type application as I would love to monitor those two values on long trips.
