I got the chunk of trim from Rochester and fabricated the back cover almost exactly as he described, Walmart tote cover and all. Fits good, but I think I still need to trim it down a bit better. I tried to wrap the surrounds with silver CF vinyl but was way to impatient and kept having issues with it sticking even though I was using promoter, so I used a can of truck bed liner on the side panels for texture and then spray painted them silver; I wanted to have the texture match the texture on the Soul Function brace. Worked out almost perfect and love the look of it. I want to clean it up a bit more this year, we'll see what happens.

Not sure why, but I really like that "truck liner" finish on the FSTB. That Soul Function brace is very appealing.

Good project, MNfiniti. Are you done? If you painted the blank plate to match, but masked it to keep the lower lip black, maybe? It looks like you're trying to match the surrounds to the silver in the engine cover.

SS T-bolt clamps... nice touch.

Been a couple of years and maybe 8,000 miles. Took a picture of the blank plate after washing the car today.

It's holding up nicely, IMO. Using that single piece of weather strip was definitely a good idea.

Fun Project!

Saw this thread over the weekend and it gave me the bug to do it. I bought the same tote from Walmart this morning and followed the methods and had fun doing it. I ordered the bulb trim from
Amazon Amazon
that will be here Thursday to finish it up. I'm probably going to repaint it because the paint I had on hand was a bit too glossy. But overall It was pretty easy with the great tutorial/DYI done by Rochester. Thanks!

Not crazy with the contrasting paint.

You're very welcome!

Yeah, that is kind of glossy. Use a flat black next time. And you could also paint the curvy trim pieces with the same rattle-can for even more continuity.

Yeah that’s a good idea. Those pieces are easy enough to remove so it wouldn’t be that much time consuming. Plus, I might also try the carbon fiber wrap route and see what that looks like because you can always peel it off.

When I first started working on this project a few years ago, one of my back-burner ideas was to relocate the INFINITI badging from the trunk to this panel. I had the emblem letters just lying around anyway, so I thought might as well.

But I never did it. Instead I found this custom emblem last year that looks so-o-o much better (IMO), and I preferred the look on the engine cover, rather than the back panel.

Anyway, bumping this old thread with that pic, just because I like it.
