My Infiniti dealership across the street has a remaining 2016 that is $10k off right now. I am sure there are not a ton of them left, but it looks like you can get a really good deal if you find one you want. I like the engine and front end, but the lack of a 6spd. manual and $52k after $10k off kills it for me. Still a cool car. Malbec black too for those who like that color.

I used to say 6MT for me forever. But you know, old age and feet of clay has a way of creeping up on you. It's feeling like a 50/50 that my next car will be an automatic. And with 5 years to go on my game plan... sheesh, anything can happen.
Can't believe I'm saying this, but the idea of having a luxury car is appealing. And this G37 of mine, this is no luxury car. At least, not anymore it isn't.
I just turned the Q60 loaner back in yesterday and started discussing the models with the sales rep after he asked how I liked it. Asked him about 6 MT, DCT among other things and his response was that Infiniti, as far as he knows, is 100% done with Manual transmissions, no dual clutches, and convertibles are 100% done (if that matters to anyone). He followed up by saying their sole target is to produce luxury cars. This probably means that even the Black S project a lot of us have been following will be a AT, and not a DCT .
It's a for-profit business. And the money isn't where the enthusiasts reside.
Just the other day, I read this from BMW. It's a sad change, for sure. But come on... be realistic. In another few decades combustion engines will be old school.
The AT game has just gotten so good that owning a MT no longer has the benefits it once did; other than driver involvement for enthusiasts. Unless someone comes out with some new tech that makes the MT superior somehow I can't see it staying around for much longer.
I was surprised to read that clip and see DCT is predicted to be obsolete soon as well. Everything I've read about Chevy's 10 speed auto is that it is just filthy so if it follows that trajectory..
Combustion will fade but it will be a slow fade until there are competitors to Tesla in the market who can offer a performer for under 80k and at a better reliability rate. Not looking forward to the day we are talking about upgrading a simple battery for performance gains. Going to get real generic in the automotive world.

I'm going to disagree with that "slow fade" prediction. If Tesla's Model 3 is successful in the production numbers they're hoping, we're going to start feeling the change sooner than later.
But that's really not the tipping point. The real key is silicon-based batteries, which make lithium batteries obsolete almost overnight. The change in the automotive industry will be fast. Heck, it's going to change everything.
