Like anything else, finding a good competent body shop is as hard as finding a good mechanic. Just because you work there clearly doesn't mean much. Can't imagine the workmanship to customers off the street.

The only time I ever used an insurance recommended body shop was years ago when I was in law school and too busy to care much about my car. I received my car back with overspray and spots showing primer. Needless to say, I have only used the best shops I can find since then and have not had to take back any of my vehicles for any follow-up repairs. You pay for insurance and have a right to be made whole, so do your homework and use a top notch shop to save time and avoid headaches.

You don't have to personally be in wrecks to know that insurance recommended shops are shady...

Also, I agree with the guy you quoted.. but as we see, some that you think are good can also be shady.
