Muffler delete will leave the car a bit boomy in the 1800-2000 RPM range. So, I'd run 2.25-2.5 with a set of resonators to keep rasp down. The Vibrant set-up should leave you with a deep sounding, budget exhaust without the rasp.

Yea, but wouldnt that setup be way too loud. I dont want somthing obnoxious. Also might be a bit dronny? I was thinking maybe midpipe mufflers alongside the resenators, but I have no clue what it would sound like or if it would greatly effect performance (in a negative way)

If you can swing the cost of the set-up then yea, go for it. I can just see the piping and resonators hitting your $500 cap.

I'm going to preface this by saying I'm kind of an idiot.

I've been looking at hfc's and test pipes a bit, more or less window shopping, and decided to take a gander at the OEM cats I currently have. This is what I see when looking under my car:

I always thought the section of pipe within the red box was the cat, but after seeing some pics of hfc's and test pipes installed, I realize the cat is behind that. These cats don't look stock to me - here's another pic closer to the header:

I was sold a "stock" g37, at least that's what the dealer led me to believe. I feel like a bit of an idiot for not noticing this sooner, especially since I've looked under my car numerous times. I also feel stupid for only replacing the exhaust up until that section of pipe within the red box. So currently I've got a pretty silly setup, with aftermarket hfc's (or test pipes?), a little section of 1.75" piping, and the rest 2.25" piping. I'll be taking it to the exhaust shop asap to get that 1.75" section of piping replaced with 2.25".

I'm not exactly sure if these are hfc's or test pipes though. Can anyone tell from the picture what I have exactly?

They look like Berk HFCs, with that little bracket.

Ok i bet this question was asked already but i looked through 45 pages and didn't see it (I likely missed it but my eyes hurt hahaha)

But what exhaust set-up is best for being quiet at idle and low rpm but loud when you get higher rpms?

Thank you and i apologize again if this was asked already.

This morning a shop upgraded the stock piping in between the cats and x pipe to 2.25" piping, matching it with the rest of the exhaust. It now has Berk HFC's, 2.25" stainless steel piping throughout, Magnaflow resonated X pipe, 12" Vibrant resonators, and Magnaflow 3 chamber XL mufflers.

Here are some vids:

Hard question to answer. From what I've heard, cbe setups like topspeed and fast intentions seem decently tame at idle and lower rpms but get pretty loud at higher rpms. I've seen some videos of hfcs paired with a Tanabe axleback and that might give you what you're looking for.

@obsidiansamurai I'm sorry man, but this is pretty lol.

Your exhaust shop probably thought you knew about it already so never mentioned it. I think it's just kind of funny how it was never mentioned tho.

Yeah it's a bit embarrassing. But hey, I already have the cats I was planning on buying and they sound great with proper piping!

Muffler delete vs. Magnaflow cat back...

Currently I have deleted the mufflers in my sedan and I have been thinking of toning down the sound a little by installing a Magnaflow cat back exhaust. My concerns are that the Magnaflow will either be louder and/or have a wicked drone while cruising. Has anyone gone from muffler deletes to Magnaflow or any experience with the full cat back Magnaflow exhaust?

Thanks in advance!

Any addition of a muffler is going to tone down what you're currently dealing with.
