The Sedan Exhaust Thread
I have the same setup pretty much except he has the admin intake and tune . I'm assuming the intake made it scream more in the higher rpms but man, I think that tune made it sound even MORE exotic . Sounds nice Jake. Glad you kept the Berks
I'm going to preface this by saying I'm kind of an idiot.
I've been looking at hfc's and test pipes a bit, more or less window shopping, and decided to take a gander at the OEM cats I currently have. This is what I see when looking under my car:
I always thought the section of pipe within the red box was the cat, but after seeing some pics of hfc's and test pipes installed, I realize the cat is behind that. These cats don't look stock to me - here's another pic closer to the header:
I was sold a "stock" g37, at least that's what the dealer led me to believe. I feel like a bit of an idiot for not noticing this sooner, especially since I've looked under my car numerous times. I also feel stupid for only replacing the exhaust up until that section of pipe within the red box. So currently I've got a pretty silly setup, with aftermarket hfc's (or test pipes?), a little section of 1.75" piping, and the rest 2.25" piping. I'll be taking it to the exhaust shop asap to get that 1.75" section of piping replaced with 2.25".
I'm not exactly sure if these are hfc's or test pipes though. Can anyone tell from the picture what I have exactly?

Yup. Those definitely appear to be HFC's. Probably Berks as another member mentioned. Here's a pic of my Berks when I pulled them off my car several years ago. They look very similar to yours with the welded mounting brackets and extensions on the O2 sensor ports. It also looks like the previous owner modified your OEM Y-pipe between the cats and the flex sections.
Exhaust choices
hello everyone looking for some feed back on exhaust. Has anyone used god speed exhaust I’m looking to spend around 750 on a decent fatback exhaust system and my friend is suggesting a Godspeed system any feedback or suggestions

You're going to be hard pressed to find a catback setup for $750. Does this budget include install too? If it doesn't, I'd recommend the Top Speed Pro-1 Y-pipe back setup. It doesn't go as far back as a catback system, but I'm sure it would wake your G up nicely (there are quite a bit of youtube videos of this setup). With install you should be able to keep it under $750. You could always upgrade that section of midpipe between the y pipe and cats at a later date, but that's another few hundred dollars to finish it out (the pieces of flex pipe are expensive).
If you're able to wait a bit longer and save up, the Invidia Q300 catback system sounds nice and installed should run you around $1200. I kind of wish I went this route originally.
Then there's the treacherous custom route in which you could probably find a decent catback setup for around $900 installed. This has the possibility of being pretty expensive if you don't get it right the first time.
Currently I have deleted the mufflers in my sedan and I have been thinking of toning down the sound a little by installing a Magnaflow cat back exhaust. My concerns are that the Magnaflow will either be louder and/or have a wicked drone while cruising. Has anyone gone from muffler deletes to Magnaflow or any experience with the full cat back Magnaflow exhaust?
Thanks in advance!
Thanks in advance!
I have a 7AT, and while driving in normal 'D' mode, the low end torque is non-existent, much worse than at stock. Furthermore, when I'm cruising at 75mph or so and if I fully step on the accelerator to speed up, the RPMs spike to redline almost, but I let off the pedal and then a second later the torque finally kicks in. I have only had this happen once and need to test it out again.
I would just grab the TopSpeed axelbacks currently for sale in the classifieds. I think I would be happier than what I have now. You'd save a bit of money too.
look up OBX, not sure how anyone on here feels about it, look it up on EBAY or just google it, also check it out on YouTube, I’d love to grab an ARK catback, but can’t justify dropping $1500 at this point, right now all’s im running is the HKS axle back, I like it, ...still want the full catback
I checked out Godspeed catbacks since I've never heard of them and I don't see an option for the G37 sedan. I only see an option for the g35 coupe, which appears to be a HKS replica.

Thans man, me too. It sounds absolutely outrageous now. It revs much more freely and throttle response is significantly sharper.
If your located in the SoCal area, I have this custom exhaust set-up just sitting in the warehouse at my office. I pulled it off my G a couple years ago and its just been sitting since then. It's a full catback system and is composed of Invidia Gemini resonated mid-pipe with crossover-pipe and a Tanabe axle back with custom piping connecting the two. I'd be willing to sell this set-up fairly cheaply just to get it out of my warehouse.

Yeah, too bad. Definitely not cost effective to ship it.
It really did sound good in the car... gave the car a nice throaty noise under heavy throttle without it being too loud when cruising. I had it combined with Berk HFC's which had a bit of drone above 3200 RPM's (so freeway 80 mph and up), so after having it on the car for several years my wife asked me to switch it back to the stock exhaust. Now I'm running stock cats and stock mid-pipe with a Tanabe axle back. Which is just a bit louder than stock but still nice and mellow.
