Dang sounds nice lol I can't even tell mine because I usually drive it ima have someone drive it so I can hear it from outside the car lmao
Thanks man. Ya. I'm hoping to get a good exhaust clip of a friend outside of the car this summer, but its way to cold to expect them to keep the windows down and stuff haha!.
I had good luck with my first G, a '10 base model. Put HFCs on her (Berk, I believe), then an Invidia Q300 catback. It sounds soooo good.
I had too much confidence and ignorance on my '13 G37xS. Bought Kinetix HFCs to save $. Saw the Megan headers, they were cheap, though I had an idea the stock headers are already engineered for performance. My shop put those two on for $800. Seemed as quiet as before install. Didn't notice a power increase. Then I reflashed the ECU with my Bully Dog. (There's no way that didn't boost the WHP. I'll eventually get dynos with and without the flashing and post the results. When I'm all done with changes I'm getting a tuner to tune her. That's when I'll settle the argument about whether a Bully Dog boosts HP.)
Then I installed the Manzo Y-back and the Megan Y-pipe (because it's bigger than the stock pipe.) It took me about 3 hours on a cold garage floor because my tools are everywhere and I haven't done an exhaust uninstall/install, though it is very simple. Fitment not bad. Put all the bolts in loose after hanging mid pipe, hung the mufflers, finished putting bolts in finger tight, then randomly snugged them all up. The tips are well centered without doing anything to center them.
Started her up. OMG! Heartbreakingly AWFUL sound! LOUD! Raspy and high-pitched. And I hear buzzing and feel vibration everywhere. And, when I walk around the car, the exhaust sound is loudest when I'm standing next to the car, equally on both sides.
Driving its embarrassing. I wanted to hear the engine so as to enjoy my paddle shifters... but having an ugly exhaust sound isn't fun. No Fahrvergnügen for me.
I've read up some... could be the changes in caliber from the various components. I've thought about testing this theory by swapping the Megan Y-pipe out with the stock. That's a lot of work and I don't want the smaller stock Y-pipe in my final system.
Then next notion I got was having a shop remove the Manzo resonators and having either Vibrant resonators or Solo Performance MR or QR resonators welded in their place.
I want the rasp gone, the volume down, and a MUCH deeper tone.
Men, what's the quickest route?
Frank
PS:
I want to install a supercharger within the next few months. I assume it will take the place of the intake; in which case, I'm less interested in the Motordyne M370 modified intake, even though it's low cost after the core charge is taken out. I'm not doing anything until her voice is restored. It's no fun driving her with her current note...

Replace the Megan Y-pipe with a Magnaflow Resonated X-pipe... That should help
It doesn't look bolt on from pics... does look like a mod I'll like. Does it replace part of the Manzo midpipe? I don't mind losing any part of the Manzo Yback except the mufflers and tips. I like the tips... the cans are attractive... but they're attached to the beveled edge tips... I was planning on spraying the cans black to camouflage them.

Thanks fir the the quick reply, ZahyMatar.
Frank.
It would completely replace the Y pipe, it would have to be welded on by an exhaust shop. Is the Manzo 2.5 or 2.25in?

More than likely it's a combination of different diameter piping and short resonators. I'd probably sell the Manzo
Quickest route? Just buy an off the shelf catback from a big brand like ARK, Fast Intentions, Stillen, Invidia, MXP. There will be no guess work in terms of sound. While it's rather expensive, these companies have done the R&D on our cars and have a proven sound. Adding your HFC will alter that tone, but many are pleased.
Cheaper route? I'd put your stock catback on and modify that. Swap the resonator on the stock setup and see how it sounds. Then, go to mufflers. Or, buy the Tanabe Axleback.

This, on all four points. And those are five solid manufacturer names, however you could probably nitpick compromises on each of them. You could also argue for GT-Haus, but not remotely on Frank's list. Somebody started a thread this week about buying the Meisterschaft (in SS). That doesn't happen often in the Sedan forum.

I wouldn't advise he even modify it. I mean, yes those knobby black cans look like junk, and those spot-welded oval tips couldn't possibly look any more cheap... but if he pairs his OEM catback with aftermarket cats, that would be fine. Feels like lots of people here are pleased with that setup. A little more volume, a slightly deeper tone, a little more grunt... but never too much in either measure. And by no means obvious... very stealthy.

Finally got around to modifying my bone-stock G37x.....by installing a Stillen cat-back exhaust. Very nice! It's what I wanted: louder and growlier without drawing too much attention to itself, with an ever-so-slight power increase. First fun thing I've been able to do with a car in a while (my wife's old car had been eating our car expenses account for a while).
Thank you, Men, for your answers. I put the stock Y-pipe back on, and it sounds better. It doesn't sound good. It isn't deep enough and it sounds like the car is powered by compressed air, not hissing, but buzzing..... I can't hear the individual cylinders firing... it's more of a buzzing propelling and when I back off the throttle there's no burble. Yuck. It's like a bad musical instrument.
So, I got under the car and held up the bad X-pipe from my Invidia Q300 over the Megan Y-pipe and Manzo Y-back connection... it looked like it wouldn't take much for a shop to cut off the end of the Megan Y-pipe and the beginning of the Manzo Y-back, weld the Q300 X-pipe in place splicing the 2 systems, eliminating a bunch of caliber changes, and connecting the two banks ala Q300. It'll be a MeganInvidiaManzo Frankiestein custom exhaust system. It may rock to shuddering eargasm or it may sound like crap. If it does, I scrap it and buy another complete Invidia system and install her myself.
Ill let let you guys know. I'll put up a clip of the current system (stock Y-pipe/Manzo back). I forgot to do a vid of the Megan/Manzo system. Then the Megan/Invidia/Manzo abomination.

Pretty sure it will not rock to a shuddering eargasm... which is an exceptionally high bar for an untuned VQ with an automatic transmission and a mismatched collection of exhaust mods.
Frankenstein... There used to be a couple of guys who made intake & exhaust components for Nissans, called Frankencar. Niche market stuff, and not necessarily top shelf, but they had a loyal base.
Carry on. And good luck, Frank.

I've had good luck retrofitting at Nismo 370Z exhaust to the sedan.
OEM True Dual H-Pipe, complete with heat shields and dampers.
OEM True Dual Mid Pipe, extended right after the forward flange to locate the Nismo resonators right under the factory heat shields.
Transferred the sheet metal between the resonators to maintain zero lift with relatively flat underbody.
New piping from Mid Pipe to stock mufflers, retaining the dampers. (The mufflers are not terribly restrictive on our cars.)
Nismo Exhaust Tips.
All new piping is 2.25" galvanized steel to match the OEM system and maintain sound characteristics (no rasp).
I no longer have the disgusting oval tips and regained the signature Infiniti Gurgle. No rasp, slightly deeper tone can be heard in the cabin. Much louder outside the car.
Butt dyno feels like it's a bit of a performance increase too (tires chirp more easily in the lower gears), but not gonna claim anything here to avoid a flame war
