I am getting the error code P0456 in my 2011 Journey Sedan. I already got the car smoke tested and they informed me that it was the EVAP canister had lost suction. I want to insure that this is actually the problem and not just a hose connecting to the canister. My problem? I am not sure where it is on the car. I saw some diagrams of G35s saying that it was in the rear by the muffler but i want to be sure before jacking the car up.
Yes I found underneath the rear skid plate. Thanks. It looks like one of the hoses is missing a hose clamp. I am going to start with that. All the hoses look to be in pretty good shape with no cracks or cuts.
I've already replaced the gas cap which could also throw that code.
I'm not sure honestly. Kinda irritating but I put the hose clamps on both ends last night. Checked my OBD and the permanent DTC was gone. Hopefully it stays gone.
errrrrr wrong. the missing clamp on the hose you are referring to is the vent control valve hose. the vent control valve hose does not need to be clamped because the other side of the hose is released to atmosphere.
Hmm.. I see. Curious that when I put the clamps on the permanent DTC code went away. Is there a common issue that happens with evap canisters causing them to leak? Or the check and purge valves?

Thank you.

no dtc will ever go away on an obd2 car. it will be stored in the history of the pcm. did you mean the mil went off on the cluster? the mil will go off once the emissions tests are ran by the pcm and depending on the drive cycle the pcm will turn off the light because it no longer sees the problem and thinks the issue has been resolved. and there is no common issue with charcoal canisters, purge, or vent control valves going bad. sometimes its moron error where the driver overfuels and causes fuel to get into the canister which can cause problems with the vent valve. sometimes driver hits road debri and damages the canister.

What do I do to resolve this issue the code popped up a few days ago for me and I filled up 2 days ago and may have overfilled. Should I replace the vent control valve? Charcoal canister? Or purge valve?
if you just overfilled you can clear the error and it shouldn't come back. If it does come back you MAY need a smoke test to test for leaks.
In this case replacing the hose clamps on my EVAP canister fixed the issue. It's been eight years and 100k miles of driving. I'm still driving the car. it's passed the NC emissions test each year since.

No check engine lights. I'd start there.
Is that the only place it can leak from the evap canister valves, or the purge valve?
