Sedan Badge Options - Polling Thread
I struggle with the Skyline badge as well, but not to the level of IracknBack or for the same reason. When I see "Skyline," I think of R32, R33, and R34- which our cars are definitely not, so I agree with you there to a point. However, this is not like when someone puts an M badge on a 318 because just like Rochester said- it is the same car in Japan as it is here.
To the best of my knowledge, Nissan does not have Infiniti in Japan just like Honda does not have Acura. I do not think our cars are worthy of the Skyline name when they are bone stock (even though they are badged as such in Japan), but when you upgrade the handling, braking, acceleration, etc. to a certain degree... maybe.
I think of our cars as more of a 4dr. 370Z (hence my screen name) since it has a virtually identical chassis, engine, transmission, suspension, brakes, etc. as the 370Z.

But doesn't the 370GT have all that same stuff, minus the RHD?
I don't particularly like it. But that's ok, pretty sure Rochester doesn't like my rear arrangement either.
Absolutely. That is why Rochester is technically right about it being the same car. My point is that Nissan choosing to call our cars Skylines in Japan does not seem to do justice to the R32, R33, and R34 that came before it. It is more like a 370Z than a Skyline.

^ I agree, I don't really feel the G is a proper successor to the Skyline name....
But then on the other hand there were "regular, boring" non GT-R skylines, and then of course the GT-R versions of those.
I'd post pictures but you'd make fun of me

It's your car, man. It certainly doesn't look bad, and it's not on the same level as putting a M badge on a 325i--a combination I actually see on a regular basis.

If I switched to a "Skyline" badge to replace the Fuji, I think it would look weird. "Skyline" in the location of the "Infiniti" would look really strange with the 370GT where the G37S is now because then it would be asymmetric and at a different height. Maybe just the "Skyline" badge where the "Infiniti" is normally with nothing else, or maybe I am just giving something so unimportant, way too much of my thought.

I get far more traction on the forum writing about silly mods like this than people who spend thousands of dollars on boost, or exotic Aragosta coilovers.
The actual results of a project are clearly not as exciting to talk about as the build up to and questions about the actual project before it happens. I just wish I had the time for that.

I noticed. I spend a bunch of hours transforming the power of my car with a tune, intakes, and intake plenum (something very few people have done) and everyone here is like "Meh." You spend twice as many hours talking about doing some minuscule project as actually doing it and the post goes on for 3 pages.
Genuinely made me LOL that time. You know, I did start this conversation over two years ago. Took me all that time to actually do anything.
Oddly enough, I am just as torn on this badging issue, but only because I am such a damn purist. I have been thinking about this since I got the car and I still cannot decide.
On the one hand the car looks understated and good the way I have it and it is honest because that is what it is (G37S). On the other hand it would be cool to have some understated Skyline badging (trunk & kick plates) and maybe a Nissan badge in the grille and on the steering wheel because that is what the car is in Japan.
On the 3rd hand (damn, too many hands) when I think Skyline I think of a twin turbo inline 6, 2 doors, a Polyphany info. screen, and Atessa-ets AWD. My car is none of that.

Stop thinking about the Skyline GT-R... you couldn't even buy that in the States anyway.
OK, here's another bit of psychobabble: The Infiniti emblem (the Fuji) is actually supposed to represent passage to an infinite horizon. How fitting to have the infinite horizon over the sklyline.
It's almost poetic.
