Nope. Exactly the same power train and exhaust system.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe they both have the same exact engine and same exact exhaust and intake?

Therefore, they have the same exhaust note.

The intakes are slightly different between 7AT and 6MT cars. The 7AT's have a Helmholtz resonator below the air filter box, connected to a hole on the fender side of the box. This hole is plugged on the 6MT cars.

The 7AT cars have a nice throaty growl to them that the 6MT cars totally lack. I'm not positive that the resonators are the reason for it, but they are the only difference I can find.

My xS sedan is plenty loud stock. In parking garages it's very noticeable. I noticed that it was louder than a 370Z as well.

That's true about the 7AT having a small Helmholtz resonator below the OEM airbox, that the 6MT lacks. It's a strange but true design consideration. Can't say whether it matters, but gsm026 seems to think so. Intake noises aside, the VQ37HR is a very noisy engine overall... not that this is a bad thing.

Whatever the difference, it's certainly dwarfed by the changes introduced with an aftermarket intake kit.

I removed the intake resonator on my Mazda 3 and the intake sounded a lot better. Can we do the same with the 7AT's resonator?

??? My 13 RWD S sdn is quiet compared to my 2011 coupe S. Sdn is All engine noise hence why I purchased a used ark grip off the forum exactly one year ago and have yet to install it. Lol. The coupe is engine+exhaust wich I miss.

Resonators can be used to tune the sound of the intake, but on most cars they are used to quiet the intake down. I'm still puzzling why my '11 6MT is so quiet compared to my previous '09 xS. The xS sounded a lot better, at least from inside the car. Not sure how much different it is from outside.

This is interesting... I have the 7AT and I will say that the stock VQ growl is ever present in the cabin above 2800rpm. I never knew about the differences in 6mt vs AT intakes. Is there an illustration of this somewhere or reason given by infiniti?

That would be a reversed logic??

I imagine they would want to make the 6MT louder because of the "sporty" nature of it?

Maybe the plugged resonators will give you more hp? lol

Seems reversed logic to me, too.

Here is a couple of pictures, one showing the resonator from the passenger side attached to the filter box. The other pic showing both resonators loose next to the driver side filter box. This is what my '09xS had. On my 6MT, the elbow is gone and replaced by a twist-in plastic plug on both sides. Otherwise the intakes and exhausts look identical.

I took that off when I replaced with silicone intake tubes^

the sound got louder with it off... although who knows if they make more power than stock.

AH, ok... I read a bit about this on the 370 board. Some guys replace the crinked tubes with aftermarket replacements and drop in filters which is also a bit louder. I believe there is a side branch tube as well, just not sure where it connects.. ha ha..
