Start Buttons: GT-R vs '07-'08 G vs my '08 G?
Hi Y'all...Just trying to gather some info between the two buttons. Here's the reason I'm gathering the info.: I have a '10 G37xS which has the white button w/ START/STOP/ ENGINE printed directly on it and LOCK/ACC/ON above it that light up respectively. So I wanted a color-shift modded button with the "ENGINE" lit up below the white button. So I did some leg work and asked Black Betty which button he had modified and he said that he had the OE G button from his '08 G modded. So I noticed that Earlier model Gs had the "ENGINE" beneath the button. SO I went on Ebay and bought an '08 G button with "ENGINE" below the white START/STOP button. And I got it the other day. BUT when I swapped it out with my button, "ENGINE" did not light up! I looked closer at the button and noticed (when not on) the LOCK/ACC/ON lettering was dark in color, like they are only to be seen when lit-up, but "ENGINE" was colored-in white making me think it's not supposed to light up?
So those of you who has pre-2010 START/STOP buttons, does yours look like that when off? Or are all the lettering dark in color an only seen when lit-up? So I'm wondering, besides the obvious red (GT-R) vs white (G) main button I'm trying to figure out why the "ENGINE" wording my '08 G button doesn't light up? Is "ENGINE" only lit up on the GT-R button? OR since the 2010+ buttons don't have the "ENGINE" lettering below the button, they are wired differently b/c it doesn't need to light up? BTW, the pins on the back of both buttons are the same; plug-n-play. Thanks all in advanced!

Got the 2008 V36 sedan and the "ENGINE" does not light up, its just painted on. I swapped mine out for the GTR(Red Metalic finish) button that I got from ebay brand new for $40 bucks and it was a simple direct plug in and it looks much better then the oem whit plastic G button.
Pretty sure you'll still need it modded to light up. Though if it's painted that may not work. May still need to swap out the white button into a GT-R housing but not certain.
You two just stated my worst case scenarios...Well RexHavoc, there's still hope. Damn, now, if it's just painted on, I have to explain to the ebay seller person why I wanna return it...sucks! Nothing goes smoothly for me...Ever!
I'm on the fence. I have my old button which I want it get modded but I have to decide whether I want the "engine" on the bottom in which case I'll need to swap it out. Pretty certain I'll just get it modded as-is and go from there. Or I'll just stay with the GT-R button.
Smooth modding means doing a LOT of research. Through my button searches, since I recently upgraded to the GT-r button, I found out a lot of people have the LED's modded on their button to be different colors. Part of this is also adding a LED for the ENGINE light if I am not mistaken. The pics above are obviously of a modded button because the start is green.

Hmmmm...Hopefully that's how it works...just adding an additional LED for the ENGINE to light-up...Most of the research I noticed was people modding the GT-R button, which, I'm guessing, already has the LED for the ENGINE spot. Not many people have modded their own OE G start button.
macintos...You are correct! I just popped open the '08 button I got from ebay. The ENGINE lettering is translucent, but on the blue LED board there's a location for an LED but no LED soldered to it! Looks like can solder a LED to the location and, voila!, illuminated ENGINE! Thanks!
