Anyone open up the stock mufflers and remove insulation?
Anyone open up the stock mufflers and remove insulation?
Has anyone ever cut open the stock mufflers and removed any insulation, then welded them closed?
I'm looking for tanabe axle back level noise with no drone and from the mild reports about the tanabe, I thought this might work.

Did that on my '08, looking for something a little more subtle this time around.
I did this on my corvette and want to do something similar if possible
Decided to do the muffler mod on my Z06 (pics and video inside) - Corvette Forum
Just need to know what the inside of the muffler looks like if anyone has cut it open.

It was maybe a tiny bit louder than stock. But really difficult to notice the difference. I ended up doing the muffler delete but now i feel it can be too loud. I'm just difficult to please i guess

That's the muffler as soon as i got the shell off. Unmodified
^have you done this?
That youtube clip of the G sedan with muffler delete sounds AMAZING, better than any clips with a/m exhaust systems.
Is there any downside to removing the mufflers, aside from possibly attracting unwanted attention?

Usually with mufflers removed you'll experience drone. I get a bit of drone at a little over 3k rpms which doesn't bother me as long as there is no drone on the highway. Plus the only time my car sees 3k+ rpms is when i want it to scream
Also, no mufflers means less back pressure which results in some low end power loss. I didn't notice any loss of low end power after removing my mufflers, but that's only according to my butt dyno.

I'm in WA. Highway speeds up near Seattle are 60mph. Most people drive around 65-70, plus i have a 7AT so i'm sure it's different than the 6MT.
Also there isn't any drone at over 3k rpms for me. It's just right at about 3,000-3,300 rpms. Anywhere past it sounds fantastic!

I actually just got back from a road trip to Canada and was cruising at about 80-85. Happy to say that there wasn't any drone at all near 3k rpms on the freeway. I even downshifted to 6th gear to get the rpms up a bit and it was fine. Although when i got under 2k rpms it did drone just a tad bit.
Conclusion from my muffler delete:
Some drone at about 3kish rpms city driving.
Only drones at under 2k rpms freeway.
Hope this helps more than my previous post.
