I am planning a ~1000 mile road trip this spring through some scenic and twisty mountain roads in Idaho and Montana. I have always tried to keep my cars well maintained and have never suffered a breakdown on the side of the highway and want to keep it that way. With my G being 14 years old, it's making me think of what I should bring to be prepared. So, what parts/tools/fluids would you bring along with you on a road trip?
Late to the party, I know. I carry a solid first aid kit (mine is more akin to an IFAK/blowout kit due to my history), one of those Slime-branded tire repair/inflator kits, LIPO battery jumper, jug of antifreeze, few quarts of oil, and blanket. Oh and a 1L jug of water - good for washing hands and feet (I live near the beach, so sand).
When I'm on a longer trip, I have a toolbag backback that I use in junkyards that I sling in the trunk. It's not enough for heavy maintenance, but for junked car disassembly it's great - and it had plenty of tools for me to fix my busted heater hose connector a few years back when it cracked on a road trip.
Dropping off tonight to finally get my OEM chin spoiler, OEM trunk spoiler and black window trim put on.
Question for you guys: the front of the G with sports package is already an amazing looking front end. I struggled with whether or not to do the oem chin spoiler because of this. On my old G35 coupe and my FX50, the oem chin spoilers were no brainers - they looked way better than stock.
On the 37 I can’t decide if the oem chin spoiler looks better, worse or just different than the standard sport bumper. I don’t think I will know until I see it in person, but from pictures my response would be that it looks different, but not necessarily better or worse.

I've gone back and forth on this question for the last 14 years, eventually giving in to the reality that I don't have the clearance to get up my driveway if my front end is even a little bit more forward. But if I had a flat transition from the road to my driveway, then I would do it.
You're not wrong, though. The sport sedan bumper looks just right all by itself. The chin is just another add-on, but one that does look good. Anyway, I think you'll be happy.

I struggle to remember my car before the chin spoiler, but I went through the same thing myself? Once you see it installed, the front definitely looks "finished". Make sure you PPF that thing as it takes on rock chips like no other. It does add a litle length on the front that you can't judge initially. Also need to be careful with ingress/egress at John noted because it will drag.
I have "Sliplo" installed on the bottom of mine and that helps.
Putting this here rather than for sale, since I just want shipping for it (IE part is free). I'd guess $15 or less for USPS Priority. Was about $25 on Amazon. This is a hose connector made from red anodized aluminum to replace the plastic one in the passenger heater hose that likes to shatter unexpectedly.
I decided to use the Z1 version so... free to good home.

One vote for No-Chin.
I've considered adding the OEM lip several times. But I've bailed each time. I don't mind the look in general, it's just not for me because:
I think the sport sedan's bumper design looks solid on its own (if it ain't broke...)
The OEM chin adds a pretty obvious seam along the bottom of the bumper (it goes over top of the bumper rather than clipping to the bottom which I'd prefer)
The OEM chin design under the fog lights sticks out too much for my taste (too aggressive for a boring person like me)
that said, I do sometimes get bored with the frontend of the car. But none of the OEM or aftermarket options have won me over yet. Maybe I'll try something custom at some point (I'd need to first make a decision on suspension)
While I don’t dislike the car without the chin spoiler, I think I adds a level of texture and refinement to the front of the car. The silver frontend looks somewhat naked to me without the midnight grill and accents on the chin spoiler.

Your post reminded me of another key factor: suspension.
At OEM height, I think this lip looks sorta awkward. But at a lower stance, it kinda hovers nicely over the road.

That's a valid point. Maybe the "pointy" nature of the spoiler is more exxagerated when the clearance is increased?
I had the chin spoiler prior to be lowered and thought it looked ok as the car was still relatively new back then, but it started taking on alot of rock chips once I lowered in 2021 and reached the extent of my Dr. Colorchip touchup skills. Adding the PPF/Vinyl accents in the front and rear once lowered enhanced the ground effects of the body.

Trying to update my VLINE2... keeps turning carplay back on when I turn it off LOL and my iphone keeps reconnecting immediately after disconnecting. Tried connecting it to my wife's phone hoptspot and it immediately kicks out of that whole menu.
I'll start something in the proper area if GROM doesn't reply to my email (if you're on here GROM people, I'll be sending that email tomorrow) so this is more a status report than a quest for help unless someone has a 'well did you push this button' kinda fix.
Washed the darn thing. I thought it had yellow soap in the spray bay but no... that was the pollen finally coming off. Specifically went to wash the engine bay after the heater hose replacement to get rid of the lingering spilled antifreeze smell.
Also finally tossed my Z1 silicone radiator hoses. They spotted badly with the OEM coolant and I could not get the spots off even with Simple Purple so... zero faith and I'm not going to sell them to someone else if I can't trust them at all. Shame - had the full freaking set of red hoses for the car, heater hoses too. I contemplated pressure flushing the system and switching to my preferred performance coolant (G05 gold stuff for mercedes; used to great effect in my various rotaries and my old Jeep. Kept the jeep from overheating even when the water pump died and I kept driving for 300 miles (I didn't know it had died LOL) temps went up to like 220 but no higher. cast iron blocks that weigh 800# lol.
Next week is working with the VA on what used to be called Voc Rehab and getting a buddy that does AI machine coding to sic his megatron on my resume to update it (he has a script that uses all the major engines in parallel, and only keeps results they all agree on, to filter out hallucinations. I think).
I'm also thinking of spending the money to have someone else troubleshoot the front end clunk. With the new Connies the suspension behaves extremely well but still has a clunk over transient surfaces and for the life of me I can't find anything loose. Hoping with them putting it on the lift so the suspension is still loaded they can find something.
I'm getting caught up on all the honey-do projects I can as a form of therapy, since I can't get in to see an actual therapist until late May. New bookcase added to the library, had to move a bank of wall switches over 2' for that, storage organizer in my daughter's closet and added her 3rd bookshelf, getting most of my lego spare stuff sorted and stowed (I'm building a MOC Saturn 1B booster out of spare parts only so far), getting ready to trim our azaleas back, albeit not "flush with the ground" as I advocated. Daughter is in the archery club at the high school as of now (she's not in high school yet lol) and we started fencing together last Tuesday. A semblance of normalcy, albeit without income, is returning.
Today I'll finish a lego sakura blossom shrine that was at my work and dig the miter saw out for some trim work we've postponed for what seems like a decade.
It was May 2024 since I last did this. And then the entire 2025 year slipped by, I'm embarrassed to say. That said, the OCI was only 3,576 miles.
Yep, I'm now averaging less than 2000 miles per year. Sheesh.
Oh hey, ignore the fade on the headlight lenses. I'm doing what I can to detail the front end while the car is up on ramps, and the front end hasn't been buffed out yet. That's just dried sealant. The headlight lenses actually still look new. I learned years ago to keep the lenses cleaned, clayed and sealed at least twice a year.
