For those of you who have plasti-dipped your badges, did you take them off first, or do it with them on the car? Seems like it'd be hard to mask off some of the edges of the Infiniti badge itself, etc.

 

You do not need to remove them and it is not necessary to entirely mask around them. I just did a square of masking tape around the area to avoid overspray. The emblems are slightly raised off the surface whichcreates a tiny gap between the emblem and the car. So once the dip dries you peel of the part around the emblem, remove your tape and your good to go. I used a toothpick to remove the part inside the Infiniti emblem. Tons of videos on youtube.

Oh interesting. So did you use an exacto knife at all to cut out the tape/paper on the inside of the logo, or were you able to wedge the newspaper behind it?

And did you use glossifier or the metallic spray on the badge as well? Thanks!

 

No there is no masking going inside the emblem, just a square about 2 or 3 inches around the area to deal with overspray.
For the color, its about 3 coats of anthracite, a coat of metallizer, and a coat of gloss.

While were critiquing, Also probably not super wise using a metal screwdriver that has been scraped on the cement to remove the pieces inside the emblem.

I've also dipped my emblems and (super easy and worth it). I painted my stock rims semi gloss black and they look amazing (paint + materials ~$40)

 

Use 3M carbon fiber vinyl wrap to cover the brushed aluminum finish and add a nice accent to your interior

 

Nice! I'm actually in the process of doing the exact same thing right now. Finished a few dash pieces and still need to do the doors and radio.

 

How much material did you need for all the trim and where did you order from?

 

I think 2ft by 5ft should be plenty, eBay or Amazon is probably your best bet. And don't go cheap on the vinyl, I ordered some China vinyl for my steering wheel trim and I had to redo it recently, I used 3m carbon fiber vinyl and it is night and day in terms of quality. Bargains are great, but here you get what you pay for.
