Last night, I went to my friend house to change the fog light because it burn out already and when we removed the wheel it appeared that the tire on the passenger side had been plug.
My question is the car was bought in December of 2012 and I have a bumper to bumper warranty, is there anything I can do??

The reason why I am saying this is on my motorcycle I had a flat and all the dealership wouldn't plug it for me and said it was a safety issue and they would be liable if anything happen to me. I thought when they did the inspection they would of check it out and realize it or just change the tire.

It's quite safe to plug/patch a car tire --- depending where the puncture is of course.

Did your friend buy the car new or used? If new, then of course it shouldn't come with any plugs. If used, well, it's up to the buyer to inspect the vehicle and stipulate any additional terms for the sale.

 

Oups sorry, I don't know how to change the title but Yes the car was bought used and probably it was my fault for not inspecting the car but they did say they will do a full 160 points inspection for me and making sure that everything is in good condition according to infiniti standard.

160 Point inspection... LOL... Yeah.. that involves going down the list and checking everything is ok.. Bring it to someone you've been taking your vehicles to in the past - someone you trust.

I can't see anything resembling a plug in your pic, but if the plug is in the area of the black circle, I'd say you'd be fine.

they cannot sell a new car with repaired tires, but they can sell a used car with repaired tires. You should not have a problem with it, just because some places wont do it today, thats how most places did it for the last however many years.

 

You'll be fine, mine got nailed after 5 days of owning I plugged it myself,no problem at all.

 

I seem to remember being told a plug changes the speed rating of the tire if it's a high speed tire. Just driving normally should not be a problem.

 

Your picture is a little fuzzy, but to me it doesn't look like you have a ton of miles left on those tires anyway. Regardless, it shouldn't be an issue.

It is never advisable to plug a motorcycle tire (IMO); especially on a performance/sport bike. Tire failure on bikes tends to have more dire consequences. Front tire failures can be downright catastrophic.

 

Techincally you can patch a motorcycle tire from the inside, but most places dont do that for liability reasons. I personally would never ride on a patched bike tire, but I know plenty of people that would. All depends on your risk aversion. The main rule on all tires is you can't patch a sidewall.

On a car tire it's fine as everybody has already said to patch a tread. Worse case scenario in a car is you lose your plug (unlikely to ever happen), the tpms light comes on and you have to ride on a spare to your tire shop of choice. On a bike it could be a very different story.

 

^^I've ridden on plenty of rear wheel plugged bike tires (some to the tire's end of life), but only plugged a front tire in an emergency. Replaced the tire after I got home.
