G37x armrest/console modifications?

Hello all, first time poster...

I recently purchased a 2011 G37x. This is my second G. I leased a 2006 G35 sedan for three years, then leased a 2009 Accord V6 for three years prior to buying the 2011 G37X. I liked my 2006 so much that I was excited to get back to an Infiniti.

I like everything about the new car except for one major issue - the complete lack of arm support for the driver. As has been mentioned elsewhere on this forum, they are positioned to low and too far back to be worth a crap. This might seem like a minor issue to most, but I commute over an hour each way to work, and my job (dentist) requires a lot of hand and shoulder activity. Additionally, I'm a pretty small guy (5'7"), so my arms don't exactly reach a long ways. Having owned the car for a month, I thought I would get used to the lack of support or be able to find a comfortable, compensating seat position, but I've had little success. It irritates the crap out of me that the ergonomics in an otherwise awesome car were overlooked, especially on a $40,000 vehicle. The '06 G and the '09 Accord were much more comfortable to me. Because my arms are my livelihood, I'm at the point where I'm considering trading in the car, taking a loss, and finding a different brand.

Does anyone here know of any possible modifications or adjustments available to provide more arm support, besides sticking a stupid pillow there? Would it be possible to have a custom cushion made? Are there any aftermarket things available that would help?

Thanks for any advice you might have.

If it was such a deal-breaker then you should have spent more time with it during the test-drive mode. To be honest I wasn't too pleased with the armrest for the 6mt because it is non-existant and thought the X armrest was tolerable but it wasn't a major issue. If you end up trading it in, I'll bet they don't get too many for armrest issues.

I go right elbow resting on the center console, right hand on the shifter and left elbow on the door panel rest, left hand on the wheel when I need to rest the arms.

Wow, do we really need to be that insensitive here??? This is not something you can detect during the "test-drive mode". It takes time to get a feel to discover whether or not you are comfortable with it.

I totally feel your frustration!. The center piece of my 2012 G37 Journey is absolutely a joke. Not only is it uncomfortable, but its practically impossible to access the inside contents of the storage box if you are sitting in the driver's or passenger's side seat.

Ultimately, you will have to decide if this inconvenience is worth the money to trade in and get something else. As for me. I am learning to live with it.

sorry if you were offended but if arm ergonomics are vital to you and your profession then you better make sure that your vehicle can accommodate your particular needs. It's not a hidden issue that can't be detected and the OP sounds like an intelligent person. There are a number of people who hate the "S" for the seats and notice their comfort, or lack thereof, immediately. The first thing that most people notice is seating position and comfort when test driving. I did mention that I wasn't too happy with the 6MT armrest (which is even further back) but I knew about it during the initial test-drive and before I signed on the dotted line.

I had similar feelings about my G, but in my case, it was the transmission that drove me nuts. However, when I managed to step back mentally and evaluate the car as a whole, I realized that the pros far outweigh the cons and that there really is no better car out there for me. I have an uneasy truce with the transmission now, and just try to enjoy what a great car this is. Any car will have annoyances, so if you trade your G, you might get a comfortable armrest but undoubtedly, you will find other negatives that the G didn't have and you will lose some of the positives. Also, you'll be out thousands of dollars. If you can't find a way to get comfortable and enjoy the great things about this car, I'm sure an auto upholstery business would be a able to make up a custom console lid cover for you.

Yes! I totally agree and was aware of this the moment I got in the car. However, in the context of the total package, I decided to just deal with it. It's somewhat comforting to see other people feel the same way. The console box lid on my old Maxima had an option where it would spring upward and forward an extra inch, to address this exact problem. Man, I wish the G would do the same.

For the life of me, I can't think of a solution. Driving around with a tissue box on the console lid is not it.

I just bought a small pillow and keep it on the armrest. Not the best solution, but it works.

I've got an idea, but I'll have to test it out. I saw something that could cure the issue the other day.

Arm rest seems to work fine for me. I'm only 5'9" but I do have my seat as low as it will go.

has the solution - extra padding and a Commensurately larger leather cover. It works great. I'm 5'7“ as well, and I had this on a previous car. Not an issue for me with the g, as my commute is all of 10 minutes, but when it was longer - this fixed the problem.
