So we need a car ASAP. Wife's old beetle got totaled...
We test drove a 2011 G37x with nav, prem package, and ill kick plates.
Sticker price: $43k
Neogotiated down to $36k and would be out the door for about $39k.
Anyways, good deal or not good? Bose sounded pretty nice to me compared to my wrx and wife's beetle. Nav wasn't a necessity but they seem to want to sell this car.
Are there any common problems with the G37x sedans that I should know about? For example, subaru's paint has terrible quality, noisey, and rides hard. Handles great. How's the noise level for everyone? This is gonna be a commuter car on hwy mainly.
We had a rental Nissan Altima that we loved because it was quiet, comfortable, but lacked sound/handling/luxury. Hence now we're looking into a G37x.

That sounds like a pretty fair deal, other's may have more input on that one. The only big thing that people harp about are the 7AT's, I don't know if they improved them on the 2011's, but some people experience problems. I have a 2010 x coupe and haven't had any problems, so I think it's hit or miss.
I shopped the G37x (sedan and coupe) for about 3 months before making my purchase. The sedan is priced below the coupe in the used market and in most of the new car markets as well. Thinking its supply/demand reason for that as one would assume more steel = higher cost... but....
$39K OTD for a brand new G37x is a good deal.

Some people complain about the paint being soft, but I think thats more to do with water-based stuff than the paint quality itself.
"Butt bubble" on the leather seats is common. My car has 3K miles and its starting to show already. The other thing I dont like is that the left side of the seat bottom "crinkles" almost from day 1, because of the way you end up pushing down on it each time you get out of the car. Remains to be seen if this becomes a bigger issue (i.e. cracking)
Im amazed at how quiet my '11 is. Sure its quieter than my old '01 i30, and my wifes '03 TL, but just riding in other cars you dont really appreciate it until you realize what you DONT hear while driving the G. The car is firm going over the bumps......Ive always related this to QUALITY, because the car doesnt feel like its floating like a boat, nor does it jar your kidneys and shake everything in the car. Its not uncomfortable by any stretch.
As far as pricing goes, Im not quite sure 36K is the best you could do. I bought my '11 LE sedan last January, and at the time the same dealer offered me a non-LE, equipped the same as the car you are looking at, for ~37K. Now we are at a year later, the '12s are already out.........youd think you could drop more than 1K off a '11. Maybe even more if they "really wanna sell this car" like you mentioned. Its depends how bad YOU want the car too.

Do you have USAA, by chance? Using their car-buying service, I just got a 2012 G37xS sedan with Premium, Nav, and Sport for $39K (not including TT&T).
If you don't have USAA, I've heard the True Car website offers something similar: A pre negotiated price that's pretty good.
I'd check those out and see if it beats your price.

Picked up the new car last night.
I haggled back and forth between 2 dealers and got this for $36,812 + tax ($39k OTD) down from MSRP of $43,800
2012 G37X sedan
Prem, Nav, Interior accent, ill kick plate, cargo net/mat, first aid kit.
Previousy was being sold a 2011... didn't like the idea. Thanks for all the suggestions

I just got my 2012 with everything you specified + mine is AWD and it was 39K out the door in NJ... You might want to check out TruCar.

You can't go wrong. I picked up the same car almost except mine also has the Sport Package.
I happen to love the 7AT in these cars - it's currently one of the best automatics short of DCT's on the market right now. The extra gears down low and lower ratios gives you more low-end torque and it always seems to choose the right gear. I came from a 370Z before with the 6speed so I was not a fan of the MT in any of these cars and was not going back. Haven't regretted it at all.

Truecar was listing 38k and mine fell way below =p
Got mine in Maryland, with sales tax 6% so it's very sweet. My dealer was so good that they found the exact color/trim i wanted from a city 40 miles away and "towed" it here... which i also suspect they just drove it here since the car had 82miles on it already! Whatever since my other car 2007 wrx was driven 120 miles from another dealer too as new.
Also got the extra tire/rim coverage for 5 years for $250ish. I recently got a nail in my new tires on the wrx and had to replace all 4 since it was AWD, pricey experience, don't want that to happen again.
Loving the comfort of the car so far. I like the voice activated navi but can't seem to make it show more option by voice, always end up hitting the manual button. BTW do you guys have an AUX port in the car somewhere? I only found the USB port so far....
As for the sportiness, haven't pushed it hard yet since it's still brand new and I can still smell the brakes/tires' new wear and tear on the roads after another 40miles of driving. Gonna baby her for a few more weeks.
My carpet is already pretty dirty since it's the beige/wheat color. Trying to get new all-weather mats but dealers are closed for the past few days.

I don't know why they don't have all cars come with black floor mats. They look better and don't get dirt in 2 minutes. I had an Audi with a light interior and the first thing I did was buy the black floor mats.
