Argh! I got a crack on my windshield...
I was driving down the highway and a rock hit the windshield and now I've got a crack. I do have windshield coverage, but I've got a feeling that they won't cover an OEM windshield. Is it worth it to pay the difference for an OEM windshield?

I feel for you. I got a chip and I noticed it was getting bigger so I had it repaired at a local windows repair shop. It wasn't much and now you can't tell almost like new.
Question to OP, are you getting replaced via comprehensive coverage or collision coverage. If it's comprehensive u might want to consider lowering it. I think $500 is big much for that. I got $200 comprehensive and $500 collision.

Not sure if it's being covered by collision or comp, but the deductibles are the same for both.

Glad I live in SC. If you have comprehensive insurance here (no matter the deductible) it is state law that ALL the glass on the car be covered for $0 deductible.
Even when I lived in FL the windshield was covered with $0 deductible by law.
If it is a small chip right now - see if you can just get it repaired before it cracks bigtime. I've used safelight for windshields on 3 other cars in the past and they always do a great job.

I just got a small chip on my windshield a few hrs ago, luckily insurance will get safelight to repair at no cost. I believe they can repair as long as its smaller than length of a dollar bill.

I already went through this problem. I had my windshield cracked by a rock, called insurance and Safelite used the resin to fill it in.... I can see where it was cracked though. The new windshield through Safelite would cost $395 if you dont have the rain sensors in the windshield. I'm eventually going to end up doing it since the rock hit right in front of my face and I also now have another chip in the windshield near that spot.
