another bad G battery

Went to the garage to start my G37 Sedan and found the battery completly dead, not low on juice but so dead I couldn't open the door with the black button on the handle or the fob. I got my father-in-laws car and managed to get it started with a jump. I drove around for about 15 to 20 miles to try to build up the battery and called the dealer for an appoint. for the next day. The ride to the dealer from my house is about 20 miles which I thought would bring the batt. up to full charge. The mechanic that worked on my car came to the waiting room to tell me the battery was down to about 480 amps from what should be 550 amps (I believe thats what he said). My car is an 09 that I bought in Dec of that year which makes it about 17-18 months old and it only has a little over 4600 miles. He sugjested I don't drive it enough and with all the things (computerized things) that are constently drawing power from the battery sucked the life out of it. Bottom line, he put a new 700 amp battery in it at no charge so I can't complain. Geuss I'll start driving it more.

How long at a time do you leave it dormant without driving it?

Your mechanic is an idiot; there is a TSB for the battery draining issue, I got mine replaced a couple of months ago along with an emission valve under warranty.

There have been times that the car sat in my garage for 4 to 6 days, not often but once in awhile. I don't understand how it did not charge itself during a 20+ mile trip to the dealers. He even sugjested I buy a Battery Tender to put on it if it isn't going to be driven for a few days. I mentioned that the bat. tender seems a bit much to maintain a charge on a almost new 40k+ car.

Is there a link to the TSB issue? I'd liike to make a copy of it to keep in my glovebox. At least they put in a new more powerful (700 CCA) battery without any argument.

4-6 days isn't excessive. If you were leaving it for weeks at a time it might run down, but you should be able to leave it for a week and it should start right up every time.

Find all TSB's here: Knowledgebase - Service Bulletins - Infinitihelp.com Forums
