Rough and noisy at startup

My G37S has barely 1,000 miles, and I've noticed that it is noisy and has a lot of vibration for about 30 seconds after startup. Is this a normal characteristic of the engine? The cabin noticeably vibrates until the car settles down after starting.

I also notice what sounds like a valve rattle coming from the engine at startup, but I understand that this engine tends to be loud.

is it really cold when/where you are starting up? that could make it a little bit rougher/noisier than normal

Mine does this too... I just passed 300 miles on it. I'm not too worried about it just yet. But if it persists after the 1st oil change, I'll have the dealer look at it.

My G37xS does it too, just passed 600 miles. It does it in the warm garage and outside. I plan on asking the dealer during first service. I have noticed many others posting about valve noise. Other than that, the engine seems to run very well.

I have 700 miles on it and it does that too. The engine gets really loud at first 30 secs and I can actually feel the car shaking not just vibrating. Then the RPMs drop a bit and all is good. Glad to see I'm not alone.

Perfect description - that's exactly what mine is doing. The shaking it a little unsettling, but it stops quickly.

Sounds like this is a normal characteristic for this engine. Can anyone chime in that's past break-in? Does this continue?

My 2010 starts up and idles normally. So far I have put 600 easy break-in miles, on it. I live in SW Florida, so the weather has been warm since I bought it.

mine is rough on and off, but especially in the mornings. I get shaking intermitently as well. Engine is not smooth, lots of vibration. My dealer is going to look at it on Wednesday.

Ive got 16K miles and change, I don't have any shaking but I usually startup around 1200 RPM and then after a minute or so it calms down to 700ish RPM

Its the "tapping" sound from valve noise. Completely normal as I understand it and it goes away after about 30 secs on my car too.

I actually noticed my car (2010 G37xS Sedan) do that for the first time today. I don't know how "loud" or "shaky" it was, but the RPM's seemed to jump up over 2000 for like 15-20 seconds and then fall back down. It's got 320 miles and is 2 weeks old.

Mine (2010) does this as well. Pretty rough sounding right after start up, but give it a few secs and by the time the RPMs settle to 1000 it is fine.

I disagree. It's not normal. If anyone hears noise on startup that sounds
like metal-to-metal; that's exactly what it is. Metal-to-metal means
parts are not lubricated adequately and if they are making an unmistakable
metal-to-metal sound, they are wearing substantially
in ways never intended....period. "dry" parts at startup should
not last longer than 5, 10 seconds at most and can usually be
cured with the right oil. Noise as described for longer than
5-10 seconds are often an indication of other issues such
as bad oil pump, clogged filter, clogged or choked lines, bad lifter
stretched or bad timing chain, parking on a incline, or even valve deposits
from bad gas or engine lugging from driving in too high a gear too
often. Another possible issue that the VQ37 is prone too, is
sheared oil won't let the VVEL actuator motor build up
pressure fast enough which can lead to actuator failure....or worse.

My dealer says...."they all do it".....I say BS, Mine doesn't
even when it's 10 below zero! I also know of several others
that don't and several that do.
