I agree, it seems like a lot of owners have a high and rough idle at start up. Why would my 2010 run smooth and not have a high idle when I start it up? They are all the same engine and should all have the same basic characteristics.

My wife said the same thing... said it sounded like an old washing machine!

To me, it slightly resembles the sound of a big block starting up that has an advanced camshaft. No really, it sounds fine to me. Pennzoil Ultra and it sounds fine.

No high idle? Mine sits at 1,200 for about 15 seconds, then 1,100 for 10, and down below 1,000 after about 25 seconds. That's when I hit "R".

11k on mine and it has always been loud at startup. Quiets down nicely. Some slight vibration that goes away. As others have said................normal.

Mine sometimes doesn't sound "refined" at startup but quiets down very quickly. It doesn't vibrate or anything. 4500 miles.

Maybe my engine has the same start up idle as yours. To me that is normal. I was thinking more of SAL123's post, on the first page, of his G going to 2,000 rpms when the engine is started.
I'll make a point of checking my tach, when I start it up in the morning.

exit9: Exactly my sentiments. Mine's two weeks old, 400 miles, it has been that way since delivery. I figure its normal as others have said. Different than my 07, but the engine "sounds" different than the 07 in all respects. I too wait the 20-30 seconds before driving off, the idle slows down in that time. It HOT outside, let's see how she performs in the colder weather....

You'll start to learn and just accept that the G makes a lot of strange noises that are supposed to be "normal"....

never had this with any other car (lexus, benz, acura)

The sound is normal. When the engine is cold, the exhaust make a lot of noises that maybe mistaken with "valve noise" or "dry start". The sound is loud with clatters characteristic of a helicopter and some hissings, but most of it is not from the engine mechanical; it is from cold exhaust. There may be some valve train ticks but that is normal. My neighbor M3 does this too, much worst.
If is not "oil" issue, if it does then you should hear this start up noise when the engine is at its normal operating temperature.
