Helmholtz Exhaust System for the G Platform?
Helmholtz Exhaust System for the G Platform?
Hey Everyone,
I got a question about no drone axle-back systems. For Q50 you can buy a Helmholtz axle back exhaust and it sounds really good on the 3.7 engine which we G37 owners share. Kind of reminds me of a Motordyne system but not all of us have $2.5k to spend on an exhaust. Are there any options for us G37 owners? I am not sure if the one from Infiniti will fit. Everyone got their preferences for exhaust sounds I want that specific sound on my coupe.
I would love to hear some opinions from you guys on this subject.

Used to be only the Motordyne Shockwave or the ARK Grip were the only aftermarket exhaust options that used a Helmholtz resonator. IDK what the market is like today.
I've heard a few, and it is sexy as you can possibly imagine the VQ can sound. But it's also really loud, so there's that. And like you said, expensive.
Worth it? Yeah, probably.

Sorry if I was unclear, start with a HH cat back for a G and modify to fit.
My G37s set up is made up of a cheap ARK knockoff with medallion mufflers welded in.
This works great with my SC and long tube headers.
Maybe start w a used catback as an experiment.
I see cheap ones on FB marketplace all da time.
you could also add "bottles" to any setup you'd like
The volume of the HH tube correlates to the frequency your trying to cancel, so your specific car may/will need a specific volume to kill your specific drone.
another thing to think about, is the factory Helmholtz chambers on the intake. Most people ditch them, not realizing intake noise contributes to drone resonance as well.
but once you modify the intake tract, those chambers would need to be re sized as well.
let us all know how this shakes out for you
HH=Helmholtz
J tube = bottle = Helmholtz chamber
