G37 Without Head Unit
G37 Without Head Unit
So, beginning the interior teardown of the G37 we sourced to turn into a 24 Hours of Lemons race car.
Question for the forum: Will the G37 start and drive without the head unit?
We want to remove as much weight as possible which would include the dash and all HVAC/Radio components. I know that some cars have the head unit tied into the immobilizer functions. Just wondering if we will run into any problems if we remove that and leave it out.
Thanks.

The car should run just fine without the head unit. There is no "lockout" or security protocol tied to the unit itself.
However, you will need to retain the Unified Meter/ AC Amplifier. This must be plugged in or the car will be a brick. The amp is the plastic white box that is mounted to the AV head unit.
It is LeMans. NOT "Lemons." I know... auto-correct, lol.

And no, it actually isn't LeMans. It is definitely, actually 24 Hours of LeMons.... It's crapbox endurance racing. Not the hyper-car French endurance race.

While I sure would like to, it's just extra weight and one more thing to break or fix. Plus, you can't feel much through the fire suit anyway. Cool Shirt with an ice cooler is the way to go for racing.
