Dare to be different - Engine bay remodel

Decided to do my engine bay. I also put in a new aluminum under shroud. All in all, I replaced most of the hoses with silicon, replaced my air intakes (painted the new ones), redid my engine cover (painted) and painted my throttle bodies as a last second decision to bring out the gold.

I have no regrets on the look, but if I were picky on power, I would agree with the many on power loss with the JWT intakes. My foot goes further to the floor for less response. Sound is near existent to what many say. A tiny bit of a trumpet effect if and only if you floor it. For me and the commuting I do, it's acceptable. I have it worst than most so some may read it as exaggerated, but a cold engine for me is in 90°+ heat so under the hood is always hot. Still like the look even though Z1 sent me a returned setup with no directions and all my hardware was both lacking and loose throughout the box. I made it work.

I painted the chrome without sanding (there were more than enough scratches already when I opened it)... I painted after cleaning with isopropyl alcohol. I did a coat of VHT-MC202 Mtl Cast Yellow Anodized, and then a coat of Dupli-Color MC205 Orange Metal Cast Anodized soon after, followed by two light coats of Dupli-Color DE1636 Ceramic Clear Engine Paint. The engine cover I used VHT SP736 Gold Brake Caliper Paint (had some left over from doing my calipers, worked fantastic), also coated with 3 coats of Dupli-Color DE1636 Ceramic Clear Engine Paint.

To clean my engine bay, I started a couple of weeks ago by simply filling a couple of spray bottle with Dawn and water. I would open my hood and spray about 5 ounces all over the place and close the hood until the next time I thought about it. No elbow grease. I'd say I did this four of five times and then did the actual cleaning. I can't weigh it to if I didn't do that, but it was super easy and the grime just fell away. I used MEGUIAR'S G15812 Plastic Restorer for everything in the bay, other than the engine cover which was just painted that day and wouldn't give me a good result anyway on it.

Last thing yet to be done is a strut tower bar. Still contemplating between the Soul Function and the Cusco. Haven't really search much though so please feel free to chime in.

Great job overall. It appears we share some colors.
If I may offer some advice for the future.
Any type of detergent that is left to dry will corrode the surface little by little, you could have taken a mild degreaser at ambient temperature and some pressured water you'd obtained the same results without the need of staining your plastics.
Prior to any future modification I try to virtually edit my ideas to get close to the result that I want.

Your setup looks great however the red and blue fight for attention
Lastly double check your charging voltages, it's been documented in the past that ground kits don't work to well on our engines and cause the alternator to under charge
You should look up the engine bay thread here and post yours:

Here is my setup:

Bull's comment about not leaving detergents on things to dry, that's good advice.

OP, your bay is very, very clean, and you got to respect that. Most people get into their cars, but rarely open the hood.

But come on man... pick a color. You're using basic glossy red, basic glossy blue, splashed with basic yellow and metallic gold. I don't understand any of these choices. Red and blue rarely go well together, particularly when both are so obvious. And the only thing gold works with are monochromatic colors.

The OP's profile is a middle-aged dude with a new-to-him, 12 year old car. I'm sure he can handle opinions, or he wouldn't put it out there.

I like the matte look to the Soul Function bar, although I think their logo is too big, too obvious. And a hard no to the teal colored brackets, but you might like adding another color. I don't know. It's a pretty teal.

Between the two FSTB, I'd go with Cusco. It's been a solid choice forever. And the brackets come blue. However, brackets schmackets, because you can always have them powder coated. Same with the bar itself.

Iron Man !

+1 on the clean bay

As for those intakes losing your power, I could see right away that heat is the issue. Your stock box had a full enclosure (from the rest of the engine bay) for the air whereas the current intakes you have are open to the engine bay from behind. These engine bays get HOT. Hence the reasoning for the long tube intakes where the filters are outside of the engine bay and in front of the radiator.

Also, good choice leaving that upper intake cover on. I see people running without them and they should be told that the heat creeps into the intake manifold when it's exposed to the rest of the 'bay.

Look at his pic... He's got these funky heat shields between the filters and the radiator. It's something.

Not a fan of that cropped cover, but props where due, BULL.

OP isn't around, and this is turning into an engine bay thread, so... I took this pic last week. Here's mine.

Basic stuff, mostly common mods... painted cover, dress-up bolts, P2M coupler brackets, FSTB, etc.

Some of the less common mods: a custom Infiniti emblem, CF wrap on the upper trim, a custom blank plate at the back with a single piece of trim seal.

Anywhere I could, the light wiring went behind the fenders, the Power wires were re-routed, same with the PCV. All of these just clutter the bay.

I'm my defense I have been rough on my car. Since I've put it on the road, it has become my daily and it's seen 20k miles already since the tuck.
Currently working on the engine wiring to see if I can make the VHR valve covers stand out.

I can't see any of your pics Roch and it makes me sad wonder if it's my work restrictions
