What are these? Decals or covers? 2009 G37 Coupe Journey
Hi folks,
I've been searching all over trying to figure out what these are. A coworker said they're decals, but they seem very thick and hard to be decals. I tried to gently peel a corner of one but don't want to take any chances.
If they're just decals of some sort I will see if I can peel one with other means. If they're covering something I don't know about then maybe I can replace them or paint them. They're an eye sore in their current state but can see they once added a good look.
See this post.
The upper one is called a "Rear Fillet Protector" while the lower one is called a "Sill Flare Protector." They are commonly called "rock guards."

Thank you both very much!
At least now I can find them. If nothing else, I'll replace them. I did touch one up with my car's paint pen for now but even if it didn't discolor (which I agree it most likely is) I don't think it would hit my eye right without them.
I saw the pics in your newbie thread, and kept zooming in thinking WTF is that? The squiggly discoloration on the top panel really threw me. And notice how they look all outlined? That's just a build up of dirt and grime on the edges of the plastic. It really looks horrible, doesn't it?
Grab a hair dryer and patiently peel them off the car. It will look so much better clean.
I totally agree. I have a heat gun and will give it a go soon. I also found all new replacements at JAPANESE GENUINE OEM PARTS CATALOG?JP-CarParts.com pretty cheap if I decide to put them back on. I'll post pics once I have them off!
Anyway, my rec is to use a hair drier. A heat gun could cause damage. I removed chip guards last year easy with a hair drier and some careful patience. Didn't look at all like that though. Wow.
May want to check amayama.com. They, typically, have the best prices. I've used them several times over the years with zero issues. However...
Be careful ordering parts from Japan right now. With all this COVID crap, shipping is limited to DHL or FedEx priority air mail ONLY. EMS-Japan will not ship to the US at all right now. DHL and FedEx are anything but economical. Just ordered a trim piece ($195) and the shipping is almost as expensive as the item itself ($182).

Finished.
I didn't even plan on doing it today and just wanted to test my newer steamer on a corner.
To sum it all up quickly, I learned a lot from the 1st side and made a video of the second that I'll upload a little later. For stone guards that have been on for 12 years and as unsightly as they were, I am so very happy at the minimal discoloration.
Best result for me was a cheaper steamer and some Goo Gone. Did some light 3M polish to finish it off but will revisit again before my next wax.
Thanks for all the help gents!
Dan
Cheap steamer worked great With Flash Without Flash
Funny I just recently got my G and was wondering what the heck these were. I used a hair dryer and peeled away slowly. Afterwards I used some goo gone, rubbing compound, and then finished it off with some polishing and it looks like it was never there now.
Handheld steamers for the win! I'm taking those off my 08 asap!
also some weird plastic interior Maybe it's an 08 thing! Wtf is this? About to rip. It off as well with the fake pedal Fake pedal. Lol wtf? Sorry my car dirty
